Once more, I'll say goodbye to you
Things happen but we don't really know why
If it's supposed to be like this
Why do most of us ignore the chance to miss?
Oh yeah

Torn apart at the seams and my dreams turn to tears
I'm not feeling this situation
Run away, try to find that safe place you can hide
It's the best place to be when you're feeling like

Me (me), yeah (yeah)
All these things I hate revolve around
Me (me), yeah (yeah)
Just back off before I snap

Once more you tell those lies to me
Why can't you just be straight up with honesty? (Honesty, honesty)
When you say those things in my ear
Why do you always tell me what you wanna hear? (Wanna hear, wanna hear)
Oh yeah

Wear your heart on your sleeve, make things hard to believe
I'm not feeling this situation
Run away, try to find that safe place you can hide
It's the best place to be when you're feeling like

Me (me), yeah (yeah)
All these things I hate revolve around
Me (me), yeah (yeah)
Just back off before I snap
And you'll see (see) me (me)
All these things I hate revolve around
Me (me), yeah (yeah)
Just back off before I snap

Torn apart at the seams are my dreams to the tears
I'm not feeling this situation
Run away, try to find that safe place you can hide
It's the best place to be when you're feeling like me

It's the best place to be when you're
Me (me), yeah (yeah)
All these things I hate revolve around
Me (me), yeah (yeah)
Just back off before I snap
And you'll see (see) me (me)
All these things I hate revolve around
Me (me), yeah (yeah)
Just back off before I snap

I think there's a possibility this song is maybe about a relationship breakdown, and either, the self hating, or the feeling of just hating everything around you, related to that. It seems that the person involved is confused about things ('I'm not feeling this situation'), and the other person isn't making things any easier for them ('once more...wanna hear?'). They just feel that they should be left alone, like they can't be trusted to be with people ('just back off before I snap'). It's a really great song!

this song has a lot of meanings and many beyond what it was originally written about. i see this song as being about relationships and having them go wrong. i see someone that has their own demons that ends up tearing the relationships they are in apart and they hate that but they cannot do anything about it. the relationship starts to go sour and they start lying to each other and saying to each other what they want to hear, telling the other person things in order convince themselves rather than the other person. they find themselves in this situation and say goodbye again and then run away to their safe place where they are single and alone which they hate too. this person wears their heart on their sleeve though and doesn't take long to fall back in love with someone else even though its hard for them to believe that this person is going to be the one. eventually things fall apart and that person isnt what they thought they were and they are running away again. all the problems in the relationship are the same and revolve around this person. this is what this song speaks to me.

well hasnt anyone seen the video...its about a girl who cant sleep cos she is haunted by her nightmares. Hence the reason why matt sings "torn apart at the seams are my dreams to the tears". Its all about freakin nightmares init.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
