Thrill Is Gone Lyrics

Sure was a hell of a mistake I made
But I sure am glad that I made it
No way for a grown man to behave
More the act of a teen opportunist
I stand accused of losing my head

We sit so high on the city walls
Our tears wash clean the cobblestones
It's not so much that the thrill is gone
Just a cleaner, sweeter, brighter thrill has come along

I can sense trouble just around the bend
And it's all been my kind of making
I can't carry on with all this pretence
When it's clear that my love has been fading
I stand accused of the things I said

We sit so high on the city walls
Our tears wash clean the cobblestones
It's not so much that the thrill is gone
Just a cleaner, sweeter, brighter thrill has come along

No comments yet? ah well! i really like this song. i think its quite self explanatory to be honest. "It's not so much that the thrill is gone Just a cleaner, sweeter, brighter thrill has come along " I'm sure everyone can relate to it in some way or another. its pretty much a song saying things happen for one reason or another but sometimes even if something good is happening, sometimes something even better can happen! great opener to a pretty good cd.

Awesome song! To me, it's about a guy who is in a relationship and he has known that it's been going a bit stale for a while: "I can't carry on with all this pretence When it's clear that my love has been fading". Anyway, he is attracted to someone else (a new "thrill") which just cements the fact that it's time to walk away from the stale relationship. He's not proud of the fact that his eye's wandered, but realises it's just further confirmation that he has to end it. Awesome album :)

He discovered someone new while visiting Spain. He cheated on his partner of 12 years. He decided the Spanish lady was better for him anyway. They are now married.

(note: I can only confirm the last statement - the rest is mere filling in the gaps)

For the reference to Spain, check out Bless My Soul, by his band, Powderfinger.

Ahh... the song makes a lot more sense now frog_man. 'Sure was a hell of a mistake I made But I sure am glad that I made it No way for a grown man to behave More the act of a teen opportunist'

How interesting- the meaning seems so obvious now. Strangely, I like it a little more now I know it's about something real. Even though I've lost a good amount of respect for Bernard Fanning as a person after reading that, the song has only been raised in my esteem.

Assuming Frog man's definition is correct, and it could well be, all i have to say is this...

What a terrible thing it is to say "Just a cleaner, sweeter, brighter thrill has come along "

I mean...imagine breaking up with a girl and saying, "Oh i still like you, but i found someone who is...just better than you"

what frog man said is true, bernard was with his woman for 12 years and he went to spain and met his now wife....there is a line in bless my soul by powderfinger that basically says know one knows what he got up to in spain, and of course the line "your sweet love has blessed my soul"

"tears wash clean the cobblestones" - there are millions of cobblestione streets in spain (i live there now)

bless my soudl also has a line "cover me in red and gold" Red and gold are the colours of the spanish flag and when translated in spanish, it makes references to a spanish patriotic saying

I think it’s sad. Because what happens when that relationship ends? you have to learn to stay put and work it out at some point because the grass is not greener my parents taught me well. if you keep running it’s gonna keep ending so you might as well stay and learn to work it out. where has everyone’s morals gone? Wow!
