Q&A
Starts with Goodbye Lyrics
I was sitting on my doorstep
I hung up the phone and it fell out of my hand
But I knew I had to do it
And he wouldn't understand.
So hard to see myself without him
I felt a piece of my heart break
But when you're standing at a crossroad
There's a choice you gotta make
CHORUS:
I guess it's gonna have to hurt
I guess I'm gonna have to cry
And let go of some things I've loved
To get to the other side
I guess it's gonna break me down
Like falling when you try to fly
It's sad but sometimes moving on with the rest of your life
Starts with goodbye.
I know there's a blue horizon
Somewhere up ahead, just waiting for me
But getting there means leaving things behind
Sometimes life's so bitter sweet.
CHORUS:
I guess it's gonna have to hurt
I guess I'm gonna have to cry
And let go of some things I've loved
To get to the other side.
I guess it's gonna break me down
Like falling when you try to fly
It's sad but sometimes moving on with the rest of your life
Starts with goodbye.
Time heals
The wounds that you feel
Somehow right now.
CHORUS:
I guess it's gonna have to hurt
I guess I'm gonna have to cry
And let go of some things I've loved
To get to the other side.
I guess it's gonna break me down
Like falling when you try to fly
It's sad but sometimes moving on with the rest of your life
Starts with goodbye.
I guess I'm gonna have to cry
And let go of some things I've loved

I don't think this is about a typical break-up. I think it's like indie girl says. I think that something happened, a catalyst that makes it impossible for them to be together. Since Underwood DOES have many college references - maybe she was accepted to where she wanted - needed? - to go and was so surprised, because she didn't expect it, that she "dropped the phone."
this song is truly amazing. carrie tells the story of every breakup thats ever taken place in one simple song. its beautiful, definately buy the cd if you havent yet.
wow i can really relate to this song! i love carrie!
I adore this song.... It's defininetly a breakup song and you know that in the song she really doesn't want to do it but she knows she has to. It's that point of the relationship when you love them so much and leaving them is like seriously leaving a part of your heart behind and you don't want to do it, but you know you have to. So she finally does it, and she drops the phone because she can't believe that she did it. She knows that he wouldn't understand her choice and that he was probably mad at her, but like the song says, it's a crossroad and sometimes you really, really just have to do what's best for you-- in the relationship or not. In this case, she decided that the relationship wasn't worth it and she needed to move on. She knows it's going to hurt, and she knows she's going to cry about it. She ultimately will have to move on over time, and she knows that she needs to do this. But you absolutely cannot move on with your life, until you break up, and she's made the first step.
i definatly agree. im listening to the cd right now actually...and i think its a great cd and you all should buy it. i dont really even like country music but this cd is truly great :)
i love this song... i think its like she loves him but for whatever reason she cant be with him... she knows its going to break her heart but she knows its the only choice she has... so she breaks up with him... knowing she will move on eventually so she does it... letting go... knowing that if she loves him she has to do it... so she does... great song!!! i love it
you guys actually buys the cd's!! how stupid
I actually think that at the beginning, the narrator is talking about a call from a doctor saying that she's pregnant or has a disease. She doesn't want to hurt her boyfriend (or, because of being pregnant, has the fear that he'll leave her), so she leaves him first.
...Yeah. That's all I have to comment on. =] It's a good song, though, which I have fallen in love with.
I don't nessecerily see it as a breakup song... Obviously it can be one, but I can see this fitting in many many other situations.
it's a breakup song. nothing more. the girl loves the guy so much and she wants to be with him so bad and vice versa but i guess she doesnt think she can. she doesnt know that he misses her so much and would die for her. maybe one day she'll realize he loves her more than the world.
