If I Could Be Where You Are Lyrics
Where are you this moment?
only in my dreams.
You're missing, but you're always
a heartbeat from me.
I'm lost now without you,
I don't know where you are.
I keep watching, I keep hoping,
but time keeps us apart.
Is there a way I can find you,
is there a sign I should know,
is there a road I could follow
to bring you back home?
Winter lies before me
now you're so far away.
In the darkness of my dreaming
the light of you will stay.
If I could be close beside you
If I could be where you are
if I could reach out and touch you
and bring you back home
Is there a way I can find you
Is there a sign I should know
Is there a road I can follow
to bring you back home to me?
only in my dreams.
You're missing, but you're always
a heartbeat from me.
I'm lost now without you,
I don't know where you are.
I keep watching, I keep hoping,
but time keeps us apart.
is there a sign I should know,
is there a road I could follow
to bring you back home?
now you're so far away.
In the darkness of my dreaming
the light of you will stay.
If I could be where you are
if I could reach out and touch you
and bring you back home
Is there a way I can find you
Is there a sign I should know
Is there a road I can follow
to bring you back home to me?

The first time I heard this song, it reminded me of someone who I haven't seen in some 10 years, but who i miss dearly to this very moment. But the meaning shifted...
....to a different search. It became a song to my inner child, a song to a part of my life that has been missing and feared "dead", the innocent and pure part of me that has been sullied by what I call "childhood grafitti". This "inner child" seems to be very elusive. There is pain... "Winter lies before me, now you're so far away" But there is also hope..."In the darkness of my dreaming the light of you will stay." So perhaps that innocence is still there.
There is the longing to bring this innocence and purity back into my life and I often wonder how to get it back. Like "is there a way I can find you, is there a sign I should know, is there a road I can follow to bring you back home to me?"
I've loved Enya for almost 20 years now. I've never really "listened" to the lyrics though, just the melody and the beauty of her voice. Once I actually listened to these words, I was brought to tears. I take care of my grandma and I see her dwindling away from me.
I pictured myself a year from now when she might be gone and these words made me cry, from the very first line "Where are you this moment? Only in my dreams" I listened on and it just made me realize I needed to cherish every moment I still have with her. "I'm lost now without you, I don't know where you are. I keep watching, I keep hoping, but time keeps us apart." Meaning, I'll see you when my time comes. This song makes me love Enya even more than I did. She is my favorite artist.
This is Kelaguen from above. My network crashed and I had to reset my username. Here I am, a year later. My grandma passed away last year and I played this song at her funeral. To this day, every time I hear this song it makes me think of her and I get teary-eyed. Enya knows how to write such beautiful music. It can be "poppy" like Orinoco Flow or it can be emotional like this one. R.I.P. Grandma 6/24/10.

I agree with you 101%. Enya's songs have a bittersweet meloday that brings back memories, and brings you the tears of joy and sorrow...

Has she tried googling the person that's missing? That usually works for me!
But seriously, this is a song about somebody she hasn't seen in a long time but she believes is still alive, whereabouts unknown. It is not clear from the lyrics whether the missing person is a lover, a child, or some other relative. The only thing that is clear is that she loves that person very much, and feels her life is not complete without that person. My personal theory is that it is about a child that was put up for adoption, but like i said, the lyrics don't make it clear. It is possible that they may meet again, but given the length of time that has passed, it is not very likely.
I feel this is about the death of a child...My son was killed in an accident, and the lyrics are exactly how I feel...Beautiful song, but so sad..
