"The whole of England must be searching for me. Well, sooner or later, they're going to find me."
"Never. Because, you see...they're looking for you, alright. But nobody's looking for me."

International rock star
That would make the day go down easy
Crucified in my sports car
I've got high hopes that things end famously

And then there's love
To keep keeping you down
You find release
In the big time

International rock star
That would make the pain go away
The last one standing at the bar
Is the dream that'll have to do for today

And then there's love
To keep keeping you down
You find some peace
In the big time

Until then
Until then
Until then
I'll keep you
Locked up tight
In my collection

"How long are you going to keep me here?"
"I don't know. It depends."
"On what? On my falling in love with you? If that's what you think, I'll be here 'til I die. Now go away. Go away! Take it over..."

I believe the spoken part is from a 1965 movie called "The Collector". The last verse (until then/I'll keep you/locked up tight/in my collection) is probably inspired by that too.

As the first girl said, the spoken part seems to be from The Collector a movie about a kinda crazy, loner, butterfly collecting man who stalks and kidnaps a young woman to make her fall in love with him. As the IMDB one line summary put it, "A man kidnaps a woman and holds her hostage just for the pleasure of having her there," which besides the woman bit, is what I think the song is about.

Also, the lyrics don't contain one thing that supports this, where at the end it goes,

(It's funny) Until then Until then Until then (It's getting easier) I'll keep you Locked up tight In my collection

I think this song is about someone who has a big dream, like being a rock star, but keeps it locked away as a comforting ambition that he will never actually follow. "It's funny/it's getting easier" is about how, surprisingly, that gets easier with time.

God i love stars! okay so this is a shot in the dark, purely based on my own opinion: okay i think it is about a man who has throwen himself into the "LA sceen" or something with the underlying principles, ie drugs, money, fame,&sex, to escape from the pain of either not finding love (leading epmty life) or lossing a true love: And then there's love To keep keeping you down You find release In the big time

the second verus i tink is talking about a girl hes going to take home: "the last one standing at the bar is the dream that will have to do for today."

the last line, mentioning collectiong, could either be refering to him memory or to the collectiong of girls hes had meaningless relationships with.

Also the movie references could exemplify his mind set and his desperation for love.

The last line the girl says should be "Think it over." I've always liked this song... because of the dark theme. What I've always thought was it was about a guy who had a large obsession with a girl, who is somewhat famous. That's because I take things a bit too literally... after reading what people have said on here, my view has changed somewhat... There can be other interpretations. Generally, yeah, you can be rich and famous, but without love, are you really worth anything?

Rent The Collector. This song is based on that movie. It is a really good movie, very chilling like the song. All I kept thinking about when I was looking at the movie was the end of this song where he goes:

(Well it's funny) Until then Until then Until then (This is getting easy) I'll keep you Locked up tight In my collection

    Great song.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
