Mr. Blue's Menu Lyrics

Brownie and a cup of coffee
As she waits my table
And she smiles when able
From the inside

And who would've thought a cup of coffee
Would make my legs unstable
Shaking
Under the table
Must be stage fright

[Interlude]

Would it really faze me
If I had all the toys of
All the club scene boys for you
And would it really kill you
If you would try to have a good time
Instead of screwing up mine
Like you usually do

I'm in love

[Interlude]

Brownie and a cup of coffee as she sits down slowly
Now the chair is holy
From the inside
And who would've thought that a cup of coffee
Would make my legs unstable
Shaking
Under the table
Must be stage fright

I'm in love

Based on the first and last versus, it seems to be a song about a secret infatuation for a waitress- but hearing the second one, it seems like she's so distracted with the serious parts of her life, she can't seem to get out and have fun. She may have hurt him before... I'm not really sure. Anyone, opinions on this?

I think the same thing that he loves this waitress but hes a bit in denial or not knowing what it is because maybe its the first time he loved in the second verse it makes me think that they got together and he starts talking about their current relationship and in the third verse I think he takes it back to the first day he met her again and explains the ending part where they start talking. the lyrics arent "writing on a cup of coffee" its "brownie and a cup of coffee" think why would he write on a cup of coffee?ordering a brownie makes sense

'writing on a cup of coffee'

I think it's actually

'riding on a cup of coffee'

As in that's what's keeping her, the waitress, going at the moment, especially with the

'smiles when able from the inside'

Waitresses have a tiring and much of the time hectic job. That's my two cents anyway.

I've always thought that the waitress is someone he likes, but isn't involved with and the middle part of the song is about his current girlfriend. Want what you don't already have kind of a thing. One of my favorite songs to crank up though!

DISCLAIMER I have just obtained a copy of Justin Furstenfeld's book Crazy Making. It's not very detailed, but it contains all the lyrics to all current (The Answers - Approaching Normal) Blue October songs, and his inspiration behind them. As I said, it's not very detailed, but it's his words on every Blue October song that is in the book. I know everyone interprets a song differently from everyone else, but having the original intent behind the song will be helpful to people who don't fully understand a song. Also, any grammatical errors are not made by me, I'm putting down Justin's words exactly how he writes them. So yea... enjoy :)

Oops forgot it, my bad
