oh so sad. it's about a blind man that's going deaf... and he's sort of dieing too isn't he? coz it says about his arterties starting to harden....

Its actually about a blind man who has just lost his wife, Eileen. It sounds like he's feeling suicidal. "Since Eileen died, the other side seems so appealing" as in, he'd rather be with his wife than on his own and living. I'm not sure about the deaf bit, I think it's the darkness being ironic. lol

i think that the deaf bit is about other ppl being deaf 2 wot he is telling them. he cries out for help (the only way he can communicate being blind) and no one listens. he feels alone now eileen has gone and wants to feel wanted n needed but no1 does cz they think he needs 2 b looked after so dont bother

• that part is metaphorical, or maybe he really is blind. either he is "blind" because his love of his life is gone and he just can't see anything but her, but she is not there to see, or he really is blind. the last line is not that he is literally going deaf, he just can't feel the happiness in the world, like hearing children singing.

• he wishes they had children but him and his wife never had any children, so now he is alone.

• his shoulders get cold because he doesn't have any arms around them, and no one is answering his longingness. he is alone.

"Falling apart At the seams and no-one seems to care You won't cry forever Eileen wouldn't want you too, I swear "

• he is just breaking down but there is no one there to care, and he shouldn't cry because eileen wouldn't want that...obviously.

"Now he is just an empty shell Oh Since Eileen died the other side seems so appealing Compared to this living hell "

• considering suicide.

• he constantly dreams about her, she is like a ghost haunting him. maybe the arteries line is a reference to his heart being broken, thus have arteries start to harden is an allusion to a broken heart...?

well that's how i see the song. great way to end the album. so sad the darkness is gone now :( ...but eileen wouldn't want me to cry over it
