So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
Too late tonight, I'm gone and your miles ahead and I'm lost.
Throughout this darkened scene, clear skies are what I need. [x2]
The light resides in lines, offset in different times.
And I'm blinded by a sea of this strange memory.
Frames change and I'm still lost.
scene stills lay still in this fog, and I try only to see straight through into you.
Your eyes become so bare, an eager and empty stare.
And I'm blinded by a sea of this strange memory.
And I am...and I see.. it's just me.
And I drift quietly through the trees.
My mind separates from my body.
Days late, I'm not around now.. I don't care.
Dreams escape all my thoughts. Awake.
I dream of a fate I cannot escape, now it's too late.
Time dies in straight lines. Waiting, I can't take anything,
You try to believe everything, but I can't, but I can't
Too late tonight, I'm gone [x4]

Moneen shows off their instrumental prowess on several occasions on the new album. To claim that alexisonfire are much better musicians is really a matter of taste, there's no real evidence to support that. Dallas green is a better singer than Kenny is, but the production and songwriting on moneen's new album is quite good.
Also, if you're trying to claim that moneen lack enthusiasm, you have clearly never seen them play live.
