The Fire Down Below Lyrics
Here comes old Rosie she's looking mighty fine
Here comes hot Nancy she's steppin' right on time
There go the street lights bringin on the night
Here come the men faces hidden from the light
All through the shadows they come and they go
With only one thing in common
They got the fire down below
Here comes the rich man in his big long limousine
Here comes the poor man all you got to have is green
Here comes the banker and the lawyer and the cop
One thing for certain it ain't never gonna stop
When it all gets too heavy
That's when they come and go
With only one thing in common
They got the fire down below
It happens out in Vegas happens in Moline
On the blue blood streets of Boston
Up in Berkeley and out in Queens
And it went on yesterday and it's going on tonight
Somewhere there's somebody ain't treatin' somebody right
And he's looking out for Rosie and she's looking mighty fine
And he's walking the streets for Nancy
And he'll find her everytime
When the street light flicker bringing ont he night
Well they'll be slipping into darkness slipping out of sight
All through the midnight
Watch 'em come and watch 'em go
With only one thing in common
They got the fire down below
Here comes hot Nancy she's steppin' right on time
There go the street lights bringin on the night
Here come the men faces hidden from the light
All through the shadows they come and they go
With only one thing in common

Clearly about prostitutes giving men what they need. He says how it happens everywhere and all the time. I don't know if he is excusing it or making the point known that he uses......what's up Bob?
...it means the chick from "Main Street" got too old for the "Gentleman's Ballet."
It's about men using prostitutes because 'they got the fire down below'. And I agree with missBhaven's statement
...about Bob not excusing it. But I always wondered in the "Somewhere there's somebody ain't treatin' somebody right" line was referring to pimps or johns. Maybe it's both.
"When it all gets too heavy, that's when they come and go" is saying that these men have problems with life and they seek prostitutes. The section about not "treatin' somebody right" could be life mistreating these men and using this to support his belief that "one thing's for certain, it ain't never gonna stop."

I agree with janeaparis1, but I'll add that if a man is getting what he wants from his wife/girlfriend, etc, that he probably won't seek the services of a prostitute. So whether it's life, or his partner not treating him right, he's using a prostitute to escape, if only for a short time. They don't call it the world's oldest profession for nothing, and "it ain't never gonna stop."

I think you have all got hookers on the brain. I interpret this song as about Hell and how if you don't do right, you are bound for The Fire Below. Fire Down Below is a veryold expression used in fundamentalist Christian churches (mine included) as an expression that you will Burn for Eternity in "the Fire Down Below" if you sin. Of course, I have sinned, and specifically with a little Red Head named April .. all freckles and ... oh, my, God. Never mind, I am starting to feel a bit warm down below just thinking about her. And that was some 50 years ago too. Anyway, watch out for The Fire Down Below!
haha thats a great way to look at it.... lol ur funny dude....... and yea my church uses that expression as well.... But so does my football coach... and he is the spawn of satan... he says "Travis get out there and get some fire down below...." in other words he is saying that i need to get out there and move my ass....

The “Fire Down Below” simply means the men are horny! The john’s are horny and they’re looking for relief. They’re looking for a street working girl. No matter they’re social status they’re all looking for “lovin’.” on the street!
“It happens out in Vegas happens in Moline On the blue blood streets of Boston Up in Berkeley and out in Queens” In other words, everywhere!
"Somewhere there's somebody ain't treatin' somebody right" They’re not getting any and that’s why they’re looking for ladies of the night!
I heard a DJ claim that this song was about Redheads implying that...well you can figure it out...
I agree this is clearly about prostitution. However, I don't believe Bob is excusing it when he gives a throaty, "Somewhere there's somebody ain't treatin' somebody right". And as far as what they all have in common... they got the fire down below. I think it's Bob's way of saying they have the same STD's.
o.m.f.g. a song about real life..run for the hills..
Red pubic hair.
