The Edge of Paradise Lyrics
Sleepless
Not really quite awake
Where the soul conforms
To deeper needs
Free within frames of custody
I revolve my spirit and exhale
On the edge of paradise
Poison burning
In my veins
Unavailing...compromised
My dreams remain the same
Soothing but yet so violent
In this world within the other world
Moonlight...in visions...heaven sent
I see demon eyes and wings unfurled
On the edge of paradise
Poison burning
In my veins
Unavailing...compromised
My dreams remain the same
On the edge of paradise
Powerless
I sail on by
Undermining life itself
My will to wonder why
Not really quite awake
Where the soul conforms
To deeper needs
Free within frames of custody
I revolve my spirit and exhale
Poison burning
In my veins
Unavailing...compromised
My dreams remain the same
In this world within the other world
Moonlight...in visions...heaven sent
I see demon eyes and wings unfurled
Poison burning
In my veins
Unavailing...compromised
My dreams remain the same
Powerless
I sail on by
Undermining life itself
My will to wonder why

It's most likely about heroin. At a concert Khan said "this is a song about addiction..".....i wonder if khan used to be a heroin junkie!
This is about Lucifer looking at Heaven, being unable to enter it, and attacking the world because it's all he can reach.
Pantero is right, except it isn't Lucifer, it is Mephisto, who wants to get back into heaven to be with God. Mephisto refused to bow to man with the other angels because he loved God to much.
Grasping at straws after years of fruitless travels, Ariel has turned to the occult and hallucinogenic drugs (represented through slow, meandering vocals and an exotic Arabesque melody), to which he has developed an addiction. Under the influence of these practices, he experiences a brief vision of Mephisto, though, as of yet, he knows nothing of the fallen angel or his divine bet. Ariel realizes that his current lifestyle will not lead him to the great answer, which he still desires as much as ever.
This song isn't about Khan and its not about the devil/Mephisto. Blood got whats going on. All the songs on Epica and The Black Halo with Khan sining are sung from the point of view of Ariel except for Feast for the Vain, Decent of the Archangel, and a bit in III Ways to Epica. On the Black Halo, someone else does Mephistos lines...
