Maybe Then Someday Lyrics

What's this thing that's haunting me
Won't my mind just let me be
With you I have to be so sober

Have our plans washed out to sea
Did we drown too easily
It's not sinking in that its over

Maybe then someday
Maybe then someday
Maybe then someday
Maybe then
Maybe then we'll make it right

If I rip you from my chest
Live my life like a scientist
Only logic will destroy me

I will pull apart my bones
To build a fire to keep you warm
And if that's not enough then its ok

Maybe then someday
After all this time
Maybe then someday
We got a lot to lose
Maybe then someday
Maybe then
Maybe then we'll make it right

Well maybe
Such a desperate word to say
And maybe
Gets me through another day
And maybe something's got a hold on you
Just maybe
Is becoming maybe not
Yeah.

Maybe then someday
After all this time
Maybe then someday
We got a lot to lose
Maybe then someday
After all this time
Maybe then someday
Maybe then
Maybe then we'll make it right
After all this time.

I will pull apart my bones To build a fire to keep you warm And if that's not enough then its ok

I love that line. I'm not sure Tommy wrote it the way I understand it but for me it's him saying that if everything he does isn't enough that it's fine with him and he understands and will try harder. I can relate to that feeling.

This song is about when you meet the right person at the wrong time. Although he thinks he's happy that things ended, he can't help but shake the feeling that it wasn't the right choice. So, he holds on to the hope that someday they'll meet again and rekindle what they once had.

"If I rip you from my chest Live my life like a scientist Only logic will destroy me"

"Live my life like a scientist" gives me the impression that the singer has always been a romantic person, always thinking with his heart instead of his brain. But after the heartbreak, he wants to become cold to spare himself from ever feeling that heartbreak again. A life where only logic will destroy him.

"I will pull apart my bones To build a fire to keep you warm"

Despite all the pain, he still cares deeply about the person he's singing to. "I will pull apart my bones" represents the deep devotion and sacrifices he'd make just to comfort them and keep them safe.

"And if that's not enough, then it's okay"

Numb to the heartbreak that comes with being a hopeless romantic, he's compliant with the idea that despite all he's willing to risk for love, sometimes it's not enough. He still hopes someday they'll meet again and the time will be right. They can fix what they had.

"Well maybe Such a desperate word to say.

And maybe Gets me through another day."

The abundance of the word "maybe" is used beautifully. Maybe can be a good word or a bad word. Maybe tomorrow will be better. Maybe tomorrow will be worse. It's all about perspective and your outlook on life. Will they have found someone else by the time he's ready to make things right? Maybe.
