She's Gone Lyrics
Everybody's high on consolation
Everybody's trying to tell me what is right for me, yeah
My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon
But it's plain to see that they can't comfort me
Sorry, Charlie, for the imposition
I think I got it (got it), I got the strength to carry on, yeah
I need a drink and a quick decision
Now it's up to me, ooh, what will be
She's gone, she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I better learn how to face it
She's gone, she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh why
What went wrong?
Get up in the mornin', look in the mirror
I'm worn as a tooth brush hangin' in the stand, yeah
My face ain't lookin' any younger
Now I can see love's taken her toll on me
She's gone, she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I better learn how to face it
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh why
What went wrong?
Think I'll spend eternity in the city
Let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away, yeah
And pretty bodies help dissolve the memories
They can never be what she was (was) to (to) me
And she's gone, and she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I better learn how to face it
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh I, oh I
I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone, and she's gone
Oh why
What went wrong?
She's gone
Oh I
I better learn how to face it
She's gone, she's gone
I can't believe that she's gone

sorry sentimetal, but this song was made like 10 years before Hall and Sarah broke up and also, Oates wrote this song cuz a girl stood him up, so your kinda just a tad off about your facts.
it is a very good "she left me" song though, i enjoy it.
Okay...here's the deal. It was written after Daryl Hall's first marriage ended. Given this was released in '73, around that time, then. Sara Allen has nothing to do with it.

I was a Nerd in High School (still am-always Will be) so I couldn't identify with the feeling at the time. But-THIS Blue-Eyed Soul Duo knocked it out of the Park with that Song (AND "Sarah.") My Late Father said that popular music was mostly "She Loved Me, She doesn't Love Me, or She Left Me." Well-of the 6.02 x 10*23 "She Left Me" songs, which probably go back to the beginning of Human Civilization, THIS one happens to be the Undisputed GOAT. I SAW them in Detroit two nights ago. They did most of their Standards, but NOT "Modern Love."
I agree with Sentimetal - at least one of the best. I like the newer acoustic version off of Hall's solo album - a little more blues-ey and a little less "pop". And any song that can fit the words "carbon monoxide" seamlessly into the lyrics always scores big with me
Great example of a "perfect" song, lyrically and instrumentally. Pretty much flawless.
This song was written right after Daryl divorced Bryna Lublin.
Hall & Oates wrote this while they were consoling each other over heartbreaks. Daryl had just divorced from his wife Bryna Lublin, and a New Year's Eve date had stood up John.
Written when Sarah left him.. best "she left me" type song ever, in my opinion.
someone recently sent this to me from youtube. someone might be a bit broken up for breaking it off. that's what happens when you don't care enough, you make a song pretending you do.
