In My Dreams Lyrics
There was a time some time ago
When every sunrise meant a sunny day, oh a sunny day
But now when the morning light shines in
It only disturbs the dreamland where I lay, oh where I lay
I used to thank the lord when I'd wake
For life and love and the golden sky above me
But now I pray the stars will go on shinin', you see in my dreams you love me
Daybreak is a joyful time
Just listen to the songbird harmonies, oh the harmonies
But I wish the dawn would never come
I wish there was silence in the trees, oh the trees If only I could stay asleep, at least I could pretend you're thinkin' of me
'Cause night time is the one time I am happy, you see in my dreams
Chorus:
We climb and climb and at the top we fly
Let the world go on below us, we are lost in time
And I don't know really what it means
All I know is that you love me, in my dreams
(Solo)
I keep hopin' one day I'll awaken, and somehow she'll be lying by my side
And as I wonder if the dawn is really breakin'
She touches me and suddenly I'm alive
chorus repeats 2x
Oh whoa oh,
in my dreams
When every sunrise meant a sunny day, oh a sunny day
But now when the morning light shines in
It only disturbs the dreamland where I lay, oh where I lay
I used to thank the lord when I'd wake
For life and love and the golden sky above me
But now I pray the stars will go on shinin', you see in my dreams you love me
Just listen to the songbird harmonies, oh the harmonies
But I wish the dawn would never come
I wish there was silence in the trees, oh the trees If only I could stay asleep, at least I could pretend you're thinkin' of me
'Cause night time is the one time I am happy, you see in my dreams
We climb and climb and at the top we fly
Let the world go on below us, we are lost in time
And I don't know really what it means
All I know is that you love me, in my dreams
And as I wonder if the dawn is really breakin'
She touches me and suddenly I'm alive
in my dreams

This song reminds me of the love of my life who passed away several years ago. I don't know how he felt about me when he died. When I dream about him, he feels the same about me. When I die, we'll see if he feels the same. It's a very meaningful song. Maybe REO's best imo.
Cannot believe I was the only one to submit this before anyone else, no seriously guys, this was one of their major hits, but its really really sad and pathetic, gotta feel for this song ya
For some reason I visualize them singing on a farm when I hear this song. This one and Sweet Time.
I was just a kid when this song came out, so it didn't really have any special meaning for me, other than that I just liked it. But when I hit my teen years, of course, like many other teens, I went through my series of "true loves"...you know, where you practically breathe in their very essence...and they don't even know you exist, even if they've been sitting in front of you in home room or copying your homework or test papers for years. I'd worn out several cassette tapes over the years listening to this song while I mooned over the "true love" of the moment, and to this day it still holds many bitterswet memories of youth for me. It's one of those classics that just seem to bring back a more innocent time, when love really did conquer all and everything was possible. As long as there's love, unrequited or otherwise--songs like this will have a place in the world.
What's there to add?
This song is about a place I've been. It's a place and time when dreaming/sleeping is preferable to being awake/reality. It's prefersble because dreams are the only place that she thinks of me, and that's the way I want things to be.
Sometimes, reality is best avoided, and it's nice to imagine how wonderful it would be if our ideals could be real.
This is one of REO's best & a personal favorite of mine. In this song, the singer seeks escape from his sad & lonely existence. So at night, he escapes into his dreamworld, where he is loved. The object of his love could be either his crush or his ex-wife/gf. The lyrics seem somewhat ambiguous in this respect, which I think is intentional. In either case, it's something I can personally relate to, because I've experienced it first-hand. Very sad, but a truly awesome tune.
I keep on playing & singing this song. One day, we have our engineering party, I sing this in a karaoke with my co-employee, they we're amazed when they hear this song.
Love can be such a difficult thing to sustain through the tests of time. Love is like a line running continuously through the universe. Can you find another line that is equally parallel to yours forever? Its tough to find....as most lines will cross and that represents the eventuality of love's termination. The question is whether or not you can surpass the clash of lines in your lifetime....still tough to do.
This is my favorite reo song. It reminds us that love is a 2 way street. If both oars are not in the water....despair and heartbreak surely awaits. Leaving you with the just the memories and dreams to hold on to. He/she was not quite like you had wanted him/her to be. The lines crossed too soon.
This song reminds of my early morning drives in Edmond Ok during Christmas time listening to this song
