it's like he's telling you a story of something that's happened (prob from his mind) and telling is that we can fight back from things or people etc that try to beat us down. makes perfect sense if you look at what happened to him with drugs but can also be put into our lives to seem better for us

1st I wish more people would comment this absolutely GREAT song.

2nd..to me, I can decipher the first 4 lines but after that i'm lost...so here goes what it means to me...

I am hopeful for you... --He wishes some luck or something like that.

Go from one to a few... --The previous, a girl maybe, broke up with him and is going out with other people.

Train the horses I ride... --OK in some kind of western philosiphy horses are used to symbolize the senses or something...SOOO he's trying to control his emotions.

Cut the air with a knife... --Now there's soo much tension he wants it to go away.

Does that seem the slightest bit reasonable.

on youtube theres a video of him explaining the song before he played it. its about this one time a spirit came to him and told him that there are two people in the world right now who can write music as well as John Lennon, and that both of them are fond of Mr. Frusciante.

The spirit then told John that he knows and is good friends with him, and that his name also starts with the same letter as his own name. However, the other one, John doesnt personally know. It could be you, someone in Arkansas or someone in Mongolia. He wrote the song for those two people in the world, especially that person he doesnt know.
