Last Song Lyrics

Did you know I'd go to sleep and
Leave the lights on
Hoping you'd come by and know
That I was home and still awake
But two years go by and still
My light's on
This is hard for me to say
But it is all that I can take

It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last time that I'll tell you
Just how much I really care
This is the last song I'll ever sing for you
You'll come looking for the light
And it won't be there
But I love you
Oh yes I do
Yes I do

All the times that I spent waiting
Wondering where you are
Always knew the time would come
When I would start to wonder why
Now the time is here
I don't know where you are
So I'll write you one more song
But it's the last time that I'll try

It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last time that I'll tell you
Just how much I really care
This is the last song I'll ever sing for you
You'll come looking for the light
And it won't be there
But I love you
Oh yes I do
Mmm-mmm

It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you
It's the last song I'll ever write for you

Quentin Tarantino has called Edward Bear the Beatles of Canada. As great a song as this is, the follow-up, "Close Your Eyes," is one of my all-time favorites.

This song was a favorite of mine as a kid. Fast forward several years and a tragedy later and I can completely relate to what he was saying -

I loved a man who was drowning in addiction and although I loved him, I had to let him go.

My Interpretation

One of the easier songs to give meaning to since the lyrics themselves make amply clear what the singer is thinking.

Off he goes leaving that gal behind with a final song aimed at her. I wonder what song(s) he wrote for the next gal in his life?

@Obbop His next song "Close Your Eyes" was about her again.

They're the Beatles of the World as far as I'm concerned. I love the Beatles, but the Beatles always maintained the "cool" veneer and never cut as close to the heart as EB did.

Try staying on topic & discuss the meaning of the song rather than your silly notions that a obscure one hit wonder band is better than The Beatles. Reaching much?

Don’t get me wrong, this song is near & dear to my heart, a fond part of my childhood growing up in the 70’s. Now as for the meaning which is why we all should be here.

The song is obviously an ode to somebody that was special to the singer.

Another classic example of unrequited & unreturned love. The lead singer loved someone a whole lot who sadly didn’t care or hasn’t returned his affections in the least.

The whole song basically describes how she left him hanging in all that time & just plain forgot he even existed. He’s waiting on her return but she isn’t ever coming back. That’s my take on it anyway.

@Songster5 Fuck you. To post a thought-policing comment like that ten years after the original comment is pure psycho

@Songster5 Wow, you must have been a dream at parties or later with your children... not. People can talk about anything they want on here.
