Manateen Lyrics

I feel like I'm becoming a
Butterly or a golden bee.
My smile's like razorblades:
When I smile
It cuts bloody deep.
My body's on the magazine,
My face on the TV,
My voice on the radio.
That's me in my dream.
When I open my eyes
I see I'm a piece of shit!

A worthless coward!
A vapid whore!
A moral-less refugee
Covered in sores!
A blithering sea cow
Lost in its dreams!
Nobody likes me, yeah!
Nobody likes me at all!
Nobody likes me, yeah!

Wet, blue world fills me up-
I find I'm deep inside.
Waves crash and I breathe water,
But I haven't died!
I won't come up..
I won't come up for air!
I won't come up..
I won't come up for air!

And beneath the waves,
I hide my head in darker water
And nobody sees.
I cut myself-
Hope to draw you in,
But even the sharks pass by;
Someone please explain.
All alone I'm growing colder.
Laughter like cancer over my shoulder.
Mirrors like hatchets to the world of my face.
You know I'm a complete..
I'm a complete disgrace!

I'm not a manatee!
I'm not a manatee!
Just leave me alone!
Just leave me alone!

And beneath the sea,
I give up and I descend
And I'm finally free!

And in the end...
Wet, blue world fills me up-
Fills me deep inside.
Waves crash and I breathe water,
But I haven't died!

Never!
With a furious poison in my heart,
Will I return from the darker waters?
I let the tide tear me apart!
Never!
With a furious poison in my veins,
Will I return from the darker waters?
I'll hold my breath and wait for change!

I die-
It's a suicide.
My body swallowed by a big blue violence
And into the endless tide.

I won't come up!
I won't come up!
I won't come up for air tonight.
I won't come up!
I won't come up!
I won't come up for air tonight.

Cold
And all alone,
I held my own
But now I give up!

I like the line "I cut myself, hope to draw you in, but even the sharks pass by, someone please explain."

Sharks catch a whiff of blood, and they come running. Now when you bleed, and a shark doesn't even care, then it's absolutely certain that you're invisible and no one cares.

If you look properly in the booklet, you'll see that it's

"Mirrors like hatchets to the wound of my face" and not "world of my face".

this song is classic horse with its technical synth and guitar but it has its own sound with its beating pulse throughout the song

as far as what the song means its obviously comparing a person to a manatee hence manateen if you dont know what a manatee is its pretty much a worthless blob that hangs around coastlines and is endangered because they are too stupid to avoid getting hit by boats but the person is talkign about how he wishes he could make something of himself but realizes hes a fat mess and doesnt care if he lives or dies cause no one else really cares

great song tohugh

I don't think he says "Deep Blue Abyss", I think he says "Big Blue Violence".

And the second time, he says "Furious poison in my VEINS", not heart.

Most HORSE songs have incorrect lyrics. Most of them are probably done purposely.

And actually, these aren't even the original lyrics to this song.

When I last saw them, before playing the song Nathan said "this song is about fat asses who cut themselves, like me."
