You Keep Me from Breaking Apart Lyrics

I'm only here because of you
because you never left me behind
saying thanks in my own way.
I say it with a song that soon will fade away
you keep me from breaking apart.
You understand the chaos in my head
only you understand every word I say
you restore my soul and erase all hurt
the hurt that only you can take away.
You keep me from breaking apart.

One of the most beautiful, honest lovesongs ever written

Seems to me there is only two options. 1) A prayer to God. 2) A song written to a good friend or a lover. I tend to think the former for several reasons. First, the phrase "restore my soul" is used... a rather biblical term (i.e. Psalm 23). Second, it doesn't seem to indicate a romantic relationship, and the song is kept very gender neutral. Third, it's the hurt that "only you" can take away... if it is a romantic interest or a good friend it could mean that he knows them on that deep of a level, a deep sort of trust, but even that seems picturesque of a spiritual relationship with God. Also, there is a sort of deep understanding that there is a telepathic link, or something similar (such as the phrase "you understand the chaos in my head" or the phrase "you understand every word I say." But who knows... it could very well be a song written to his pet.

This is my favorite song by this band. It makes me think of my little girls because the whole song says pretty much how I feel about them.
