Echo Train Lyrics

What makes you think it's gonna last
When everything you've ever done was to be past
Just think about our bodies in this place
And imagine us shooting through the space

Stop dragging us down
With all your tick-tocking clocks that seem to never slow down
Stop dragging us down
Because eventually this future's gonna swallow you

Why do you think it's gonna end
When everything that's ever been around on this echo train
Just think about our bodies in this place
And imagine us shooting through the space

Stop dragging us down
With all your tick-tocking clocks that never seem to slow down
Stop dragging us down
Because eventually this future's gonna swallow you

this song is saying "chill out with your big fucking philosophical questions" - or to "stop dragging us down" with them. Of course in the big scheme of things, what we do, what we are, and everything that we value is ephemeral, transient, and exists only for the moment that we live. As Chad suggests, we should "just think about our bodies in this place." Why worry yourself with the big questions when they just make you existentially bummed?

eagle-bear, this song is about the transient nature of life, as you said, but nowhere do the lyrics suggest that Chad's dissing philosophical questions. If anything, this song's just the opposite.

This actually reminds me of all the "end of the world/humanity" predictions. The first part is for the people saying it will never end. The second part is for the people trying to predict when it will end, when in reality no one knows. I don't think this song is dissing philosophical questions, seeing as it is pretty philosophical itself, no matter how you interpret it. A lot of Chad's songs are.
