"So I say goodbye to a town that has ears and eyes" / saying goodbye to a home town, its actually really poetic what he says here, hes running away, he feels the town hes in see and hears what he does, like its evil or something, usually thats the embodiment you give something that is evil anyways. /

"I can hear you whispering as I walk by" / this is accually used in poetry to describe that hes thinking of someone, he can hear them in his head /

Familiar faces smiling back at me and I knew this would make them change / he can see the faces of people he knows smiling at him as he walks/drives, memories /

"The only thing that's going to bother me Is that you'll all call yourselves my friends" / he finds it heartbreaking knowing someone who has hurt him so bad would call them self his friends, obvious who ever hes talking bout has betrayed him in some way /

"Why can't you look me in the eye one last time?" / it hurts him that he cant be looked in the eyes anymore. ussually when someone has done something harmful to someone, they have a hard time looking at them the same way anymore, i belive thats the case here. /

"The writings on the wall, you've read that I'll be gone, but if you call my name just know that I'll come running" / hes left something behind, hes leaving, but not his feelings for whom ever hes speaking of. so if they call him he still feels obliged to help, the trouble being of course he doesn't feel they need him /

for one more night to spare with you this is where I'm meant to be, please don't leave me / he still obviously cares for what he left behind but he doesn't feel he belongs there, sp hes saying even though hes gone he doesnt want to lose what he had /

"I’ve read these stories a thousand times, and I’ll rewrite them all" / hes seen this so many times before, now hes going to change how it ends for once. /

I'll just take my time" / i think this is where the song takes an interesting turn, he seems to be referring for the first time that what he left behind was a girl, i feel that this is actually a conversation he has at one point with someone that had entered her life while she was gone. i believe the line 'is a whores lies worth dying for' is actually something someone said to him when he was talking about the situation and that possibley what had entered this girls life is another guy that hes not getting along with /

I walked into your house this morning I brought the gun from our end table Your blood was strewn across the walls They'll find you on your bathroom floor when I'm done /this could be referring to the girl or guy, knowing jeremys writing style most likely the girl but i dont think he guy should be ruled out. personally i believe its the guy, but the message regardless of who it is intended for is very clear /

But should I write it all off? / this is actually a figure of speech, meaning really that, he cant decide if he should let it all go. /

You should have killed me when you had the chance / referring to the girl or guy, that she/he should have ended it before he had that chance to because it would have ended better /

You're all kind of wrong. It's about all the familiar people (in Ocala?) that used to ignore them and now "this has made them change" their attitude. They all act like they "all call [them]selves [their] friends" even though they were barely so before they got famous. I'm sure everyone has had people tell them after school is over that they'll keep in touch and it's all just words. It's like that, but now these people come running back to congratulate them and act like they are close.

However, he's leaving a girl behind and he's "meddling in an anger [he] can't control" (frustration of long distance relationship, jealousy to who he's talking to, etc.) but he's gonna "rewrite" all the stories about them and make it work. And if she needs him to be there, he will be, as fast as he can. When he says "This is where I'm meant to be, please don't leave me", he means he belongs on stage but he loves her, so he asks her to bare it. "She means the world to me, so hold your serpent tongue".

"Why cant you look me in the eye one last time?" Everyone is being fake and can't conjure up enough courage to do so, or probably in the girl's case, she's really upset he's going. She might be cheating, but I don't see too many signs of that.

The whole "I walked into your house this morning" sequence is probably a metaphor for the fact that when you get famous, it's like a rolling ball of power over other people. Like a monster, it grows and grows and grows til it can't be stopped and everyone is dead. Same with fame, it can change a person and make them do something they normally wouldn't do (such as shoot your pseudo-friends.)

"You should have killed me when you had the chance" means someone should have stopped them in their tracks before they got all this power and unleashed it.

the only thing that's going to bother me is that you all call yourselves my friends. uh-may-zing line. but this one's even better.

Maybe im reading way to deep into this, but...

I almost get the impression that the town that he is leaving doesn't know that he killed someone. Its going to bother him that they called him his friends, because they really didn't know him or what he did.

He talks about "writing" a lot. There is the "writing on the wall" in the chorus, a mention of "rewriting the story told a thousand times" in a second verse, and then at the end when he isnt sure if he should "write off". Im not sure if this right, but he had also said that when he killed whoever the blood was spattered across the wall. That almost makes me think that he manipulated the evidence (bc from blood evidence you can tell how a person was killed, at what angle they were shot etc.)

The fact that he says "our" end table implies that he was close to the person that he killed... possibly that it was a girlfriend or something. I almost get the impression that she knew he was a psychopath, but didnt do anything about or "kill" him, or metaphorically "kill" the dark side of him. She knew he was dangerous but didnt do anything.

So basically to me, this tells a story. His girlfriend cheated on him, and he became extremely angry. The town with eyes and ears knew about it. He kills her and makes her death look like a suicide by manipulating the blood ("writing") on the wall. He leaves the town with his dignity as depicted in the first few lines. They think that she killed herself out of guilt, and this makes them not want to be unfairful in relationships ("and i knew this would make them change"). These people didn't really know him, but the girl he killed knew his extreme anger, and didnt stop him when she had the chance.

Idk if that makes sense lol?

I think the song is about a guy who has to go to school or something and all of these people are acting like they're his friends or acting innocent, when they're talking about him behind his back, and he's starting to get tired of it.

(The first line is about how he's read all these stories about husbands killing their cheating girlfriend, and how he'll be an other story in the verse "I'll rewrite them all." & The rest of the verse is when he's debating on whether he should kill himself and die, in thee verse: "Is a whore's lies worth dying for?...I'll just take my time." the last sentence is him deciding he'll just die whenever he's meant to.)

IT TALKS ABOUT HOW HES LEAVING EVERYTHING BEHIND HOW HES LEAVING THE PEOPLE WHO HATED HIM AND TRAITORS.HE THINKS THAT BY LEAVING THE PLACE HE LIVED WOULD MAKE ALL THAT CHANGE

The ending is the best part of the whole song..gives me chills everytime.
