Armageddon Lyrics
Let's all gather at Times Square
And let's all say a prayer
To Walter Disney and Mike Tyson
At Madison Square Garden
And then the lights came on
In the middle of the night
What I should do with my life
How I should spend my time
I'll be a stock broker and get me a wife
Have the diamonds cut
Have the diamonds
And Jesus said they're a girl's best friend
And hell they'll last forever
And Jesus said now take her hand
And raise this harlot's bastard sun
And then the lights....
And afterwards we'll all go to hell
When the money's all spent
When the money's all gone
There'll be a place for us in heaven's gate
Waiting for us on lay away
And then the lights....
And oh what a pity the world's not white
And oh what a shame I don't have blue eyes
God must have been a color blind
If I made the world it would be all white
And let's all say a prayer
To Walter Disney and Mike Tyson
At Madison Square Garden
In the middle of the night
What I should do with my life
How I should spend my time
Have the diamonds cut
Have the diamonds
And hell they'll last forever
And Jesus said now take her hand
And raise this harlot's bastard sun
When the money's all spent
When the money's all gone
There'll be a place for us in heaven's gate
Waiting for us on lay away
And oh what a shame I don't have blue eyes
God must have been a color blind
If I made the world it would be all white

this is a great song, almost definitely my favorite cocorosie song. it freaks me out a bit because although i am almost sure it's satire, at first i was a little nervous that it was advocating white supremacy or something. then i realized i was being insane, and of course not. yadda yadda. yess.
GREAT song
this song gives me the chills, i love it so much. these women are so talented, and their lyrics are so clever.
I believe when Bianca and Sierra are making reference to Jesus and religion they are trying to make an up roar or statement about it. More so, actually mocking religion and how people think of God. Or in softer words, making people think about things.
But, if it IS on the other hand and they are very religious, (which sometimes I find myself questioning back to myself) then, that would mean some of their music would be racist, sexist, very offensive and, actually, against everything I love and have learned about CocoRosie.
I've always thought that they sing and write about things that have happened to them and horrible things that are happening to others. I've always loved them because they sung about their sexual abuse, the abuse of women in marriges, the wrongfulness of sexist traditional roles in marriage and how all those things are wrong and that people should think about these things more, maybe even do something about it. But, if they are religous I do believe it goes against a lot of the mockery that they make in a lot of their songs like By Your Side
'I just wanted to be your housewife All i wanted was to be your housewife I'll iron your clothes I'll shine your shoes I'll make your bed And cook your food' --Always thought this part was about the wrongfulness of forced traditional roles in marrige
And then the next line 'I'd wear your black eyes' --About marital abuse
Or Jesus Loves Me 'Read your bible good and well Don't forget about that apple spell Don't fall in the wishing well Wishing for heaven and gettin' hell Wash behind your ears don't smell Cover them freckles don't ask don't tell Kiss your papa but not too long Hold his hand Don't do no wrong
Jesus loves me But not my wife Not my nigger friends Or their nigger lives But jesus loves me Dat for sure 'Cause the bible tell me so' --Mockery against racism and how some christians feel they need to be in order to be accepted in the christian religion.
So what the hell?
I'm pretty sure all of their "religious" songs are sarcastic and meant to portray the stupidity of certain beliefs/ lifestyles that are racist/ homophobic/ sexist.

For example in this song it says " and jesus said they're girl's best friend and hell they'll last forever" and jesus said "now take her hand and raise this harlot's bastard sun"

obviously jesus, as most christians see him, wouldn't say "hell" call a girl a harlot (prostitute) or say "bastard". it makes jesus kind of sound like a redneck. Which leads me to assume that cocorosie believes people...

I think cocorosie do believe in god, but not a god that would hate so many minority groups.
This song is about peoples beliefs in items/religion. The song talks about what an individual thinks he should do with his life.
"What I should do with my life How I should spend my time I'll be a stock broker and get me a wife"
This is the first verse that brings me to believe that this song is about how people put value to things that do not necessarily exist. As a stockbroker he essentially has a job looking after virtual assets that have no real monetary gain; unless they are credited by others in what they believe to be the value of stock.
The next line states that he will get a diamond to get a wife, which for some reason society believes they are a girls best friend, however it is just a rock. another reference in how people give value to items for no apparent reason.
The chorus I believe is a reference to how things can quickly change, as the lights turning on abruptly in the night would shock anyone.
"And then the lights came on In the middle of the night"
This is a simple phrase that everyone can relate to. The song ends saying that when the money is all gone and spent what else is there? We end up with nothing because we put our values in the wrong things; money is now essentially credit which does not have any real value unless you give it value. We put people and items on pedestals that should not be there; referring to the first verse in the song; and eventually leading up to the subject of how we as people see one race as superior to another.
As for this line: "There'll be a place for us in heaven's gate Waiting for us on lay away"
I feel it is a reference to how we as people put too much value in money, so we can never find a true happiness because we will never fully be able to "afford" what we believe to be happiness
I think CocoRosie does a lot of satire of religion. Either that or they're very very religious. (I hope it's the former.) "And oh what a pity the world's no white And oh what a shame I don't have blue eyes God must have been a colour blind If I made the world it would be all white"
I think it references Hitler and how he thought perfection was blondes with blue eyes. I'm not too sure though.

i love this song and its religious satire. it has a lot of references to the old testament, well some in the new too. i just love it, being imprisoned in a catholic school all my life.
what fucking brilliance. i only feel inferior when i try to relay the meaning. if one can't find the meainingf to this song, then he/she shouldn't waste his/her time. it' pretty fucking obvious....but all i can say is the satire is at its finest.
this is one of my favorite cocorosie songs. the chorus is really great.
love this song, love cocorosie..
gorgeous! "when the money's all spent, when the money's all gone" sung so beautifully! the lyrics are great great great.
