Avarice Lyrics

Politics and evil
All one in the same
Satan hides behind a different name

Take these chains away
Free my hands from bondage
Cant explain a way
Avarice will kill you in time

Violent upheaval
Cities drenched in flame
Wickedness we know we can contain

Take these chains away
Free my hands from bondage
Cant explain a way
Avarice will kill you in time

How the willing murder now
See what we are becoming
An onyx veil that filters out the light
I'll savour this anger
My hate makes me stronger

Free my hands from bondage
Take these chains away
Running from destruction
Avarice will kill you in time

I think you have to view this album as a whole and not each song individually. Like a story.

The song "Ten Thousand Fists" is like a prologue saying, Don't you see what you are becoming? Let me show you, and look there are others who agree.

Then the other songs talk about, politics, greed, the youth all being the same, how the would is corrupt, ect.

Avarice then being the closing to the story saying, "See what we are becoming" and that "Avarice will kill you in time." If we do not free ourselves ("Take these chains away") from this evil we will in end be the cause of our own extinction.

This is album is so powerful and moving. My favorite album by any band. I could not agree with the views described in this album any more.

I don't know about you guys but this is my view. Disturbed for ever.

Ya i agree with you, but i don't think its just politics, I think he's just talking about the entire world in General becoming more and more evil. And politics is just one example of the evil. This is a really good song. The album is really really good.

Ohh, and notice the placement of both songs (10,000 fists and Avarice)

  1. Ten Thousand Fists (Beginning of story?)
  2. Just Stop
  3. Guarded
  4. Deify
  5. Stricken
  6. I'm Alive
  7. Sons Of Plunder
  8. Overburdened
  9. Decadence
  10. Forgiven
  11. Land Of Confusion
  12. Sacred Lie
  13. Pain Redefined
  14. Avarice (End of the story?)

Coincidence? I think not.

I agree with both of u. The "cities drenched in flames" may be referring to war, as a result of avarice. Great album, good lyrics in all songs.

The search for riches to a point where its destroying everything around you... it may not harm us right away, but will ruin us over a distance.

I know it may seem funny but whenever I heard this song for the first couple times, I thought they said "All the Dixon People" not "Politics and Evil" and still, when I listen to it and read the lyrics it still sounds like "People" not "Evil" but I will go with what the lyrics say.

Politics and evil All one in the same Satan hides behind a different name

this is a reference to the illuminati, freemasons whatever you want ot call it. speaking that the people who are in charge of the world are evil and using the refernce of satan seems to point to the masons and the next verse referencing man being bonded in chains of slavery also makes the idea of the masons being a direct point in the song.

I think the delivery/construction of the chorus is poor. That is unusual for this band. However, I like it as poetry.

As for the meaning, it seems like a clear warning about the driving force behind many politicians: the obsessive desire for wealth and power. Such desire is often the mark and seed of corruption.

This describes most governments quite well. It need not be concerned especially with American government, as it is not unique in its avirice.

i think it says people also, i dunno

If you look at the theme of the album (Sacred Lie, and of course, Avarice) you'll see that there is a strong anti-Bush message. (see Freejack, he said it all)
