Last Generation

I too think it might be about the apocalypse, but I'm not sure. I'm hearing a lot of different things in here. But my first thought was the apocalypse.

My second idea was WWII. Maybe a young man who was in the Nazi party who is regretting his past. It's haunting him, as he sees how he chased and imprisoned so many innocent people, represented by the family.

My third idea was that it sounds like Children of the Corn. :p

What an awesome song, the new album is much more heavier than any of the past stuff in my opinion.

I think that the song is obviously talking about somebody dying (being hit by a truck car etc). Then the rest of the song is talking about the family remembering him and everything going dead: "And dust replaced their souls, hearts turned into stone"

Perhaps this blokes death signaled the end of everything i.e"the last generation"

well it's definitely about a death...

there have been 3 songs in the past, i believe, about lauri's friend--can't recall his name, if it was ever mentioned to me--who was a drug abuser (Shame, before his friend's death, Smash right after he died, and Still Standing)

this could be another song relating to that incident

but i just love this song...it's just so meaningful....it's........incredible...definitely my new favorite song

Well, I first thought of the end of the world. It's probably just me and my paranoid mind, with all the earthquakes and natural disasters happening. I thought it was about global warming finally causing some big disaster, "a raging ream of light". People are desperately abandoning the technology and industry they have relied on and have destroyed the planet with, "stopped and left the car" and are crawling back into nature's arms to search for safety, "ran into the field". Its definitely the earth's last chance, God has given them a chance to change, but they haven't, "the end of salvation". The family represent the innocent people who will suffer because of the actions of people worldwide. "The last generation" had the power to change things and look after the planet, but they failed and now we look back on the "memories" with envy and bitterness.

I think this song is about a nuclear bomb, like Hiroshima or Nagasaki, because it talkes about vapourisation, 'And dust replaced their souls', people are turned to dust, literally, when they are caught in a nuclear bomb blast, and 'A raging ream of light', which would be created by such an explosion. 'Rest in peace is all over now' could refer to the end of World War 2, which was immediately after the attacks on Japan, and the bomb did wipe out whole generations, hense the Last Generation.

There wouldn't have been time to run into fields if a hydrogen bomb was busy going off. And why would anyone point hands at him? You're WRONG.

No, I think it's either about an only child (son) being killed in a car crash and the family being consumed with grief, or the same thing but from the other driver's perspective (who crashed into the only son and didn't die). It would make sense then that they point fingers at him.

I understand this song. it's about your last granparent dying. it says 'last generation' meaning last IN the generation. well that's what i think. It made me cry the first time i heard it. and maybe it was somehow his fault that they died or he feels it's his fault.

I agree with Katzkittens. This song is obviously about a nuclear bomb and mass genocide. Notice "a raging wave of light vaporized all this life" and "dust replaced their souls"(people are litararily turned into dust in a nuclear bombing) Though it may not necesarily be talking about the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, but rather of a worst case scenario about a nuclear bomb in the future. And it would be quite possible for someone to run into the fields while a nuclear bomb is going off, it depends on how far away you are. You could see a huge wave of light and a mushroom smoke thing in the distance (several kilometers away) and be so scared you could run...duh. And that thing about a petrified family pointing their hands is something more figurative than literal. That could indicate that the singer/writer of the song feels terrible grief at the deaths of so many innocent people. What better image than a dead family pointing their hands at you? It is a tragic and striking image.

perhaps the line "a raging wave of light vaporized all this life" is refering to a car's light before it hits the person, which would be in keeping with what squidder said. I duno, I just like this song, this album is so great. I really wonder why there was absoluty NO advertising in the UK, very anoying.

I think it's about the apocalypse, or maybe a nuclear disaster? the idea of the 'light/ vaporised all this life' and 'incapable to breathe' makes me think it and also the background music seems kind of rushing, like the sea, as if whatever's happened has big implications for nature?
