It's hard to remember days
Mornings lost in a chronic haze
Breath is fast and the trains are slow,
I barely feel it though
All day long I fantasize
In the dark behind of other people's eyes
And then they disappear
Words get lost in the atmosphere
The truth,
I'll tell, I'll tell the truth
Sixteen on a summer roof
You ask for the facts
Well I'll need proof
Outside on skin
That crimson dress too thin
All winter up her woods
I touched it, it felt good
All I want is my radio [2x]
He speaks in a voice I know
Sounds like sound when the tide is low
We kiss to the voice each night
Bathed in pale reactor light
I cry when the morning comes
Count my blessings and my thumbs
Say: "Thanks god for whatever comes"
That briefly cross my fingers
All I want is a room somewhere
Run away from the chemoware
And when I go my radio
Will make a melody that lingers
All I want is my radio...
Station ninety-nine point 'O' [99.0]
Tell the DJ: "DJ keep it slow"
Light to fade before you know
It's hard to remember days
Mornings lost in a chronic haze
Breath is fast and the trains are slow
I barely feel it though
All day long I fantasize
In the dark behind of other people's eyes
And then they disappear
Words get lost in the atmosphere
The truth,
I'll tell, I'll tell the truth
Sixteen on a summer roof
You ask for the facts
Well I give you proof
Here's the truth
It's all I want,
Is my radio
All I want is my radio [...repeat innumerable times]
...tell the DJ:
DJ keep it slow

If you live in NYC, I think this song makes more sense than ever. MY Radio has a melancholy feeling that is so in sync with the feelings of the L out of Brooklyn. Especially this part of the song.
It's hard to remember days Mornings lost in a chronic haze Breath is fast and the trains are slow I barely feel it though All day long I fantasize In the dark behind of other people's eyes And then they disappear Words get lost in the atmosphere
Basically, there is this numbness that over comes your being. During rush hour, you are completely packed in the L with all these strangers, yet there not so private conversation are stuck in your ear. Finally they reach their destination. Along with that are there life stories you overheard. All you can do is move on to another day and let it all go.
Thank you so much for posting this song, its one of my favorites by Stars.
i love this song too much, and i can't believe that the lyrics were finally posted. thank you.
does anyone know what the difference is between the AM and FM mixes? I trascribed these lyrics from the AM version.
hi, i think i have some minor corrections:
It's hard to remember days Mornings lost in a chronic haze Breath is fast and the trains are slow, I barely feel it though All day long I fantasize In the dark behind other people's eyes And then they disappear Words get lost in the atmosphere
The truth, I'll tell, I'll tell the truth Sixteen on a summer roof You ask for the facts Well I'll give you proof
Hot sun on skin That crimson dress too thin All winter up her woods (i think this might be "all winter up her words", but i'm not sure, he pronounces "words" strangely later, as well) I touched it, it felt good
All I want is my radio [2x]
He speaks in a voice I know Sounds like sand when the tide is low We kiss to the voice each night Bathed in pale reactor light I cry when the morning comes Count my blessings and my thumbs Say: "Thanks god for whatever comes" Then quickly cross my fingers All I want is a room somewhere Far away from the chemoware And when I go my radio Will make a melody that lingers
All I want is my radio... Station ninety-nine point 'O' [99.0] Tell the DJ: "DJ keep it slow" Light to fade before you know
It's hard to remember days Mornings lost in a chronic haze Breath is fast and the trains are slow Barely even feel it though All day long I fantasize In the dark behind other people's eyes And then they slowly disappear Words get lost in the atmosphere
The truth, I'll tell, I'll tell the truth Sixteen on a summer roof You ask for the facts Well I give you proof Here's the truth
It's all I want, Is my radio All I want is my radio [...repeat innumerable times] ...tell the DJ: DJ keep it slow ...light to fade before you know
also, as for the fm version, i don't think that there are any lyrical differences. i'll go back and try to make sure!
its funny one night about 2 years ago i stayed up till 5 writing down the lyrics to this album, and hawksley workman's for him and the girls, but never posted them. id like to thank those of you who have done it for me.
Thank you for the correction[s]. They are rather minor plus I'm feeling a bit lazy at the moment to email the admin to correct the lyrics. I personally think the line is "up her woods" because I figured it was some kind of euphemistic way of referring to female genitalia and well sex in general. But in all likelihood, the guy who wrote this song was proabably smoking weed anyway.... which may explain the first verse.
you ask for facts/i'll give you proof. i like
i love both versions, but i probably perfer the FM Version
I think this song has to do with environmental issues. Stars can be pretty political sometimes, especially if you see them in concert before a big election (even though they based in canada.)
I think the Radio is both the actual radio - the music the group makes and the message they are trying to get accross, and also radio like radiation. There seem to be lots of references to things like nuclear energy, radiation, pollution, etc.
"Mornings lost in a chronic haze Breath is fast and the trains are slow" - I see a hazy morning in the city, where the air pollution has blotted out most of the skyline, and the singer is having trouble breathing.
"Words get lost in the atmosphere" - like the people who talk about global warming, their words fall on deaf ears and its just another thing floating up into the atmosphere.
Other references: Bathed in pale reactor light, Count my blessings and my thumbs (makes me think of how radiation can cause mutations and have other odd effects, hes hoping he isnt affected), Far away from the chemoware .....
The Sixteen on a summer roof part is him thinking back to his younger days, sitting on a roof with a girl when the air was fresh, and overall life was more enjoyable and beautiful. He didnt have the cares and worries he has now. The only reason climate change (All winter up her woods = sexual innuendo) would come to his mind was because he was thinking of how he wanted to have sex with the girl who was playing hard to get.
"And when I go my radio Will make a melody that lingers" I think is the jist of the song. He hopes his music makes an impact.
I believe the lyrics for the third verse are:
Hot sun on skin That crimson dress too thin (I used to think it was "That girl's in dress to thin") "Or into other words" I touched it, it felt good
