Messenger Lyrics

I am the messenger for the city I live in
I run legal documents and war plans
I'm with a girl who's stationed far from here but
These letters that I carry go past there

oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo
oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo
oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo
oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo

I would be shot on sight if I showed my face
Tonight I carry plans to attack her base

I begged her see me in (see me up)
I begged her see me in
They're coming this morning (see me up)
But this window won't open (see me up)
I'm running out of time
I'm running out of time (oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo)

oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo
oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo
oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo
oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo

And watch the city burn tonight... (oo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo...)

I think this song is about two people who despite the fact that they are on opposite sides or political reasons should make them enemies, they still love eachother and want to be together. One is actually a member of a side, while the other is just a messenger who carries "legal documents and war plans". So they have their relationship secretly, knowing the danger, and the fact that their prospective sides are fighting eachother and if they were caught in relations they would be killed for it. Finally, the day comes when the messenger is carrying plans for the base where his lover is stationed to be attacked and destroyed, he risks his life to go and warn her, but the window won't open and he can't get in and she can't see him. He can't save her after all and her base is attacked and destroyed/burned, and he watches it all happen, helplessly.

This is one of the most brilliant short-stories ever put to tune. You get the entire Romeo/Juliet theme of the story, tragic ending and all, in fewer than 100 words.

I am "the" messenger, there em only one. "These" letters that I carry. This song is about espionage, you know being a spy and stuff, like James Bond, Jason Bourne, Jack Bauer, David Bowie. He is trying to get into Rachel's house so he can get that zipdisk he left there.

i find the idea of the messenger causing his own pian (the death of his lover) very interesting and the fact that he attempts to but can't saver her is evenmore depressing. i love this band

As one of those obsessive ex boyfriend who can't accept the fact that it's over, this is my theme song.
