A Higher Power Lyrics
She said let's put a plastic bag over our heads
and then kiss and stuff 'til we get dizzy and fall on the bed.
We were in heaven for five or six minutes, then we passed out
and I was so in love I thought I knew what love was all about.
In church on Sunday making out in front of the preacher.
You had a black shirt on with a big picture of Nietzsche.
When we had done our thing for a full Christian hour,
I had made up my mind that there must be a higher power.
A higher, higher power.
A higher, higher power.
At a Christmas-party, I'd hold your hair when you vomit,
I'd help you up to brush your teeth, and then I'd kiss your stomach.
We lie still on your bed, the room is lit only by the tele
and it's a perfect night for feeling melancholy.
A higher, higher power.
A higher, higher power.
Higher, higher power.
Higher, a higher power.
A higher, higher power.
A higher, higher power.
and then kiss and stuff 'til we get dizzy and fall on the bed.
We were in heaven for five or six minutes, then we passed out
and I was so in love I thought I knew what love was all about.
You had a black shirt on with a big picture of Nietzsche.
When we had done our thing for a full Christian hour,
I had made up my mind that there must be a higher power.
A higher, higher power.
I'd help you up to brush your teeth, and then I'd kiss your stomach.
We lie still on your bed, the room is lit only by the tele
and it's a perfect night for feeling melancholy.
A higher, higher power.
Higher, a higher power.
A higher, higher power.

I love this sweet and sour love song - I can't belive no one else commented about it. I like the reference of Neitzsche- the philosopher who said that god is dead- that must really piss the preacher off.
Jens Lekmans lyrics are over all amazing, but this one really stands out... It's got such a brilliant flow in it, and it's really full of all of these associations that always makes you smile... Brilliant, just brilliant.
Probably the best love song ever, Jens always helps to show how arbitrary religion is by pointing out the true jouissance in the world.
I also read this recently and found it quote funny: "I was prohibited to attend church when I was a kid. So I made up my own religion that had these enormous churches with millions of candle-lights. It was beautiful for a while. Then I just invented this god that was this punishing, evil god that would punish me for everything."
The only higher power there is: Love!
This is just wonderful.
the beginning of this song is so petsounds..
i want this kind of a romance.
this song is perfect
I was listening to Blueboy's album "Unisex" for the first time awhile ago and found out that violins in Higher Power were sampled from the first song in Unisex, "So Catch Him". Im suprised no one has commented on this yet, even though Jens samples them in such a way, youd think its his own.
i thought he sang "i rolled your head when you vomit"
