The Market Lyrics
Let me paint you a picture
A picture that I know that you'd like
I'll let the colors run
It dries and then it's done
And we'll go to the market and sell it
It's worth more to them than it is to you
You say you'll put it on the wall
But I don't want you to
We'll go to the market and sell it
Let me build you a fortress
A fortress you can decorate
I'll find a way to pay the bills to the estate
And we'll go to the market and sell it
It's worth more to them than it is to you
You said you weren't happy
And you won't be happier
We'll go to the market and sell it
Let me give you some money
Some money for a daring escape
We'll find a ticket cheap
Say goodbye and you will leave
And you'll go the market in Paris
It's worth more to them than it is to you
You said you weren't happy
And you won't be happier
We'll go to the market in Paris
A picture that I know that you'd like
I'll let the colors run
It dries and then it's done
And we'll go to the market and sell it
You say you'll put it on the wall
But I don't want you to
We'll go to the market and sell it
A fortress you can decorate
I'll find a way to pay the bills to the estate
And we'll go to the market and sell it
You said you weren't happy
And you won't be happier
We'll go to the market and sell it
Some money for a daring escape
We'll find a ticket cheap
Say goodbye and you will leave
And you'll go the market in Paris
You said you weren't happy
And you won't be happier
We'll go to the market in Paris

This song is about someone who is underapreciated, whether it be a lover, or a parent, or just a friend, it's saying that they're giving things most people would highly value but the person is taking it for granted, and even though "you said you'd put it on the wall" it's like a sort of pity apreciation, like you give a child with a picture they've done, "oh sure, thats really good, lets put it on the fridge" but the person doesn't want that, they want someone who'll actually apreciate it to have it, and this song is about them threatening to take away their love etc and give it to someone else, saying it would mean more to them
Aha I love this song. First song I heard by The Hush Sound..definatly very catchy. I heard it once and found myself humming it the next day. Only certain bands could pull off something like this. Definatly well written, and glad someone else likes them =)
When I first heard this I thought it was pretty bland, no drums and whatnot. But then I listened to it again and it's absolutely amazing.
I feel like it's a guy who does all of these things for a girl he wants (or vice-versa) but she doesn't feel the same way..."It's worth more to them than it is to you" is like saying that she doesn't put value on these things because of that.
i like thethirdduke's respose too.
On the last chorus, it's "Worth more in francs than it is in our banks", even though that's not what he sings on the album. It's in the lyrics.
ummm...hmm...so this guy does a lot for someone he likes...and it just ends up being wasted??
.....>.<
or...he does something for someone and they like it, but he won't let them have it...the person is like...someone who won't let go...
I love this song.
I'd always thought this song was about a guy selling out what he does (the picture, be it real or metaphor), for other gains instead of for the girl.
