About a guy who did everything he thought he should to win a womans love but it just didnt work out. He can't understand why it keeps happening but it does. He can't figure out why she doesn't love him the way he loves her. He put all his heart into it but thinks he told her he loves her too soon. Story of my life.

I have to disagree with Brad. I used to interpret the song that way, and then I both listened to it again and read the lyrics.
This song is one of hope. It's actually about reconciliation.

@cycworker totally agree... this song seems to be my theme song right now in my life, finding myself going through a midlife crisis of sorts. The questions that come with middle age and re-evaluating ones life and how one gets to where they are now, with "empty nest" right around the corner... blah blah blah.
