Easier Than Love Lyrics
Sex is currency
She sells cars, she sells magazines
Addictive, bittersweet, clap your hands
With the hopeless nicotines
Everyone’s a lost romantic
Since our love became a kissing show
Everyone’s a Casanova
Come and pass me the mistletoe
Everyone’s been scared to death of dying here alone
She is easier than love, is easier than life.
It's easier to fake and smile and bribe
It’s easier to leave. It’s easier to lie.
It’s harder to face ourselves at night, feeling alone
What have we done, what is the monster we’ve become
Where is my soul
(Numb)
Sex is industry, the CEO of corporate policy
Skin deep ministry, suburban youth, hail your so called liberty
Every advertising antic our banner waves with a neon glow
War and love become pedantic, we wage love with a mistletoe
Everyone’s been scared to death of
Everyone’s been scared to death of
Everyone’s been scared to death of dying here alone
alone
Sex is easier than love. It’s easier than life.
It’s easier to fake and smile and bribe
It’s easier to leave. It’s easier to lie.
It’s harder to face ourselves at night, feeling alone
What have we done, what is the monster we’ve become
Where is my soul (Where is my soul)
Where is my soul

Jon Foreman: "Another song inspired by irony or paradox or perhaps sheer confusion. How is it that one of the most meaningful, intimate moments in a human's life is now used to sell beverages or magazines or auto parts? And indeed, sex sells. It's no wonder that sex is easier than love, because love is extremely difficult, almost impossible at times. I have no fingers to point, my friends, I'm simply stating the obvious and I love screaming this one out. This one was inspired by the Shins- a great band with great production elements. In many ways, Romey really made this one come alive."
this song is so truthful. the world needs to hear it. I love this part, "Everyone's a lost romantic, Since our love became a kissing show." Sometimes is does seem that romance is lost and that we have created a fake version of it.
we definately need to hear this song. sex is flaunted and raved and disgustingly used everywhere. it has lost the meaning and puropse God gave to it. i'm still holding the big V card but this songs helps me see that there's no rush. love is the main thing to understand and conqour.
"Suburban youth, hailing so-called liberty." anyone care to explain this?
i think it means thet there's kids who think that freedom is free, but it's not. i think.
Ah.. I LOVE how very very blunt this song is. Our culture's obsession with sex has gone overboard.. it would rock if they used this as a single on radio.
I think that line is talking about immature teenagers who protest censorship and call cussing freedom of speech and think their parents are trying to control them by telling them not to do drugs or have sex. It makes me think of those freshmen with bloodshot eyes wearing Bob Marley shirts or mini skirts who have no idea who or where they are and can't remember what they did last night to save their lives. Those people annoy me.
Sorry, I don't want to be one of those picky people looking for mistakes in lyrics but there's just a couple of things I noticed that were different from the 'Nothing is Sound' booklet which I'm assuming is correct and it actually changes the song a bit. I believe the chorus is:
'She is easier than love Is easier than life. It's easier to fake a smile and bribe. It's easier to leave. It's easier to lie. It's harder to face ourselves at night feeling alone, what have we done? What is the monster we've become? Where is my soul?'
Just quietly I'm still trying to work out how 'Were is my soul' makes sense.
Also in the first verse it's 'clap your hands' not 'crack your hands' and the second verse is 'suburban youth, hail your so called liberty' rather than 'hailing so called liberty and also 'every advertising antic, a banner waves with a neon glow' not 'I've been a ways with a neon glow'.
Hopefully that clears a bit up. Heh, I guess I am just a picky lyrics person.
Switchfoot is awesome! This song cleary shows how in modern society, morals have decreased, and American youth are taught that sex is casual (don't deny it-ask almost anyone). They think that it is sooo difficult tobe abstinent. Of course, the media also uses sex as a marketing tool. This song simply states that sex is easy and short, and love is difficult but lasting.
very cool song. Very easy to realte to, our world has become a place so controlled by sex and its ridiculous. Switchfoot have done it yet again by tackelling todays relevant issues head-on
