St. Petersburg Lyrics

Before the time of the morning sandman
I can find my way around
Soon be here at the borderline I guess
Armageddon coming down

And here lies a pretty state again
It's time to make a move on
Cos in three days I'll be out of here
And it's not a day too soon

Firelight, the light of love, burns
Turns to ashes in your hand
So to bed by the morning light I guess
I'm awake and understand

Set sail for St. Petersburg
Making use of my time
Cos in three days I'll be out of here
And it's not a day too soon

Head out to a better life
I can get a job, settle down
I'm full of love, of a full of feeling
I can't stand the here and now

Leave town for pity's sake you know
It's time to make a move on
Cos in three days I'll be out of here
And it's not a day too soon
Yeah, three days I'll be out of here
And it's not a day too soon

Why does it say it was written by Brazilian Girls below the lyrics?

Who would've thought that one day Supergrass might create one of the best songs of any year? St. Petersburg is my favorite track from arguably the best supergrass album to date. The song is about the desire of leaving one's tedious meaningless life and heading for a better one. But this desire can be nothing more than a dream or a wish that we assure ourselves it will happen someday in order to overcome hardships and the sense of loss. The piognancy of the song lies in the fact that such a dream might never come true and we know that but we can't really let go because without it, our neverending quest of finding salvation will be doomed.

I was all ready to do a big write up on this song because I think it's simply wonderful. However Joekubrick has put it better than I ever could. I completely agree with you about the song meaning, beautiful song from a great album.

Joe, I want to have your babies. Couldn't have explained it better...this is a very cool song. I like the piano bit which matches the singing. I also like the acoustic sound :9

Excellent song by Supergrass!

I agree with all of you. I can listen to this song all day on repeat and never get sick of it. Like Joe said leave it too a group like Supergrass to throw a beautiful curveball of a tune. They are a great group who deserve more acclaim.
