I think this song is about fighting a terminal illness and trying to live through it, although you know you can't. Great song though!
I think it's more of a metaphor. It sounds more like the writer is talking about the need for humanity to fight and wage war, and how that need/desire for violence is like a contagion, or a terminal illness.
"We must find the cure before we die" ie: our violent nature will eventually cause us all to kill each other.
My favorite FF song, I think it is about struggling in war, much like Orichalcon wrote.
This song is obviously about Star Wars. It describes Anakin Skywalker going through his transition from a gifted Jedi to the second in command to the dark side.
