In a Lose, Lose Situation Lyrics
Don't be late
There's no time to be afraid
There's a way
To clean up the mess you made
If I could tell the truth
Or lie would I attempt to do at the same time
Expect you to apologize for trying
to make me so uptight
Don't say its just a game we play
I can't loose the taste
If you regulate how the blood is pumping
Through the veins from my heart into my head
In time this blood supply
Will change me from red to white
Every thought that you know i'm thinking
May as well be the knife stuck in my back
This taxing fever makes me gravitate to this place
This is still my life
And yours to define
Anyone in their right mind would never let you inside
Anyone in their right mind
I've broken ties with the neighborhood
A feeling like a burn in the city
waking only to take a drink
From an empty glass
Of nothing good
And sinking like a stone in the sea
without the oxygen i need
Deciding as i wait for her to entertain
Careful not (to breath in [3x])
The right time and the right way to elevate
Careful not (to breath in [3x])
To breath in the air
That so proudly puts to death
My own fathers name
I remember when your hand started shaking
There's a better way to clean up the mess you've been making
There's no time to be afraid
There's a way
To clean up the mess you made
Or lie would I attempt to do at the same time
Expect you to apologize for trying
to make me so uptight
Don't say its just a game we play
I can't loose the taste
Through the veins from my heart into my head
In time this blood supply
Will change me from red to white
Every thought that you know i'm thinking
May as well be the knife stuck in my back
This taxing fever makes me gravitate to this place
And yours to define
Anyone in their right mind
I've broken ties with the neighborhood
A feeling like a burn in the city
waking only to take a drink
From an empty glass
Of nothing good
And sinking like a stone in the sea
without the oxygen i need
Careful not (to breath in [3x])

Careful not (to breath in [3x])

My own fathers name

to me this song talks about situations in life where you want to do the honest thing but the wordly fleshly thing is pulling you to it. you float back and forth between Godly things and wordly things, afraid to "lose the taste" that worldly things have, giving them up for the greater good which is God. Sometimes we walk the line too close, and have to get pulled back, because the world is so tempting in everything it offers.
good good song. i love the part "anyone in their right mind would never let you inside"
I also think that this song is is dealing with worldly desires that we all deal with on a daily basis. I love the guitar work on this song; it's very specific and detailed it's incredible!
DNASK8! I completely agree!! This song is definately not about a lame girl.... I have been wondering about what the whole "Deciding as i wait for her to entertain Careful not to breath in" Stuff was about, and now I get it. He doesn't want to breathe in the bad air cuz he knows he can pull out....he's deciding whether or not he should give in to temptations of the world GOOD SONG!
Here's how I see this song:
God: "Don't be late, there's no time to be afraid. There's a way to clean up the mess you made.
Man: "If I could tell the truth or lie would I attempt to do at the same time? Expect you to apologize for trying to make me so uptight? Don't say its just a game we play. This is still MY life, not yours to define."
then starts actually thinking about the life he's living
God: "Anyone in their right mind would never let you inside. Anyone in their right mind..."
(note: God isn't "anyone" and therefore will welcome the prodigal man back no matter what)
Man: "I've broken ties with the neighborhood, I'm feeling like a bum in the city, waking only to take a drink from an empty glass of nothing good. And sinking like a stone in the sea without the oxygen i need, deciding as i wait for air (sin) to entertain - careful not to breath in. The right time and the right way to elevate, but careful not to breath in the air that so proudly puts to death...
Then realizes that he's SINNING AGAINST GOD!!!
"My own fathers name!!!"
God: "I remember when your hand started shaking. There's a better way to clean up the mess you've been making"
of course this is probably not how Emery wrote the song, though who knows, it could be. It's just my view of the song, and the meaning I take from it.
wow Tomahawk, I do doubt if they did mean it that way, but I think its really cool to look at it that way, I get the most meaning out of it. I like it. Very creative.
I'd like to say just how much i love all you guys who commented, and bands like Emery who work through music to promote God in a Godless place, and how much I love how God is such a loving, compassionate God, and no matter how bad we hurt, and how afraid we are, that music can bring us relieve
Definitely one of my favorite emery songs also. I love how the Question had a great theme to it, every song title answers "Where were you when I was..." for instance, where were you when I was In a Lose, Lose Situation? And like Lindsey said, they have a great message that a lot of people can take inspiration from, Christian or not. And I think you guys pretty much nailed the interpretation on the head, and good job Tomahawk, that was a cool way to look at it.
this is probably my favorite emery song just because it is very powerful and real. I think a lot of thier songs are but i just really like this one the best... anyway my favorite line is 'careful not to breathe in the air that so proudly puts to death my own Father's name' and yes i'm gonna say that it can be interpreted into talking about God because it seems as though he is saying he is so careful not to breathe in the air around him meaning sin because when you are full of sin you are basically slapping God in the face and he says that he is being careful not to do that. i love the fact that emery is a Christian band and their lyrics can be interpreted into any way someone wants them to be because i think emery's goal as a band is for the music to move anyone in anyway possibly whether it be through interpreting it as God or as just a song about a man, i think if it makes you feel good in any way then they have done their job.

"This is still my life Not yours to Defy"

I believe it has something to do with struggling between worldly desires and human impulses (lust, greed, yada yada) I also thinks it talks a little about Satan and all those temptation thingys that he throws out there (mini-skirts, low cut shirts, and so on) while talking about how when you fall from God you often deny him "That so proudly puts to death My own fathers name." Kind of falling in to the firey pits of hell that smell of sulfur so he is trying not to breathe in cause he knows he can pull out of it and back in to the glorious light.
I know that some hater will come along though and say, quote: "Why do you stupid people always think its about God, it is about a Girl! I am so tired of Jesus this and God that." Just watch. In fact, its probably gonna be you. Well I think the song is about christianity and if you don't think so, good. I hope you get something else out of the some. If we all wanted to know EXACTLY what a song meant we would all be listing to Limp Bizkit. I gotta go get some Nookie now....
you know what just for making me wste my time reading your interpretation of a song and imposing your ideals im gonna say its not about god but still about temptations in a relationship. then again if you look at it that way it could mean a relationship with god so think whatever you want
