Everything Changes Lyrics

If you just walked away,
What could I really say?
Would it matter anyway?
Would it change how you feel?
I am the mess you chose,
The closet you cannot close,
The devil in you I suppose
Cuz the wounds never heal

But everything changes if I could,
Turn back the years if you could,
Learn to forgive me then I could,
Learn to feel

Sometimes the things I say
In moments of dissaray
Succumbing to the games we played
To make sure that it's real

But everything changes if I could,
Turn back the years if you could,
Learn to forgive me then I could,
Learn to feel

When it's just me and you
Who knows what we could do?
If we can just make it through
The toughest part of the day

But everything changes if I could,
Turn back the years if you could,
Learn to forgive me then I could,
Learn how to feel and we could,
Stay here together and we could,
Conquer the world if we could,
Say that forever is more than just a word

If you just walked away,
What I could really say?
And would it matter anway?
It wouldn't change how you feel

this song is a-mazing. i fell in love with it when i first heard it. i mostly agree with Flintstones. I think the guy has been hurt before so he is scared to open up to this new girl. so he puts his guards up. i have been in relationships when the guy had his guards up. it sucks. you are never exactly sure how they feel and sometimes they do stupid stuff and you dont understand it. so in this song i think he guy fell in love with this girl, but he gave her the wrong impression. so when she tries to leave him, he feels like an idiot. when he says "If you just walked away, What could I really say? Would it matter anyway? Would it change how you feel? I am the mess you chose, The closet you cannot close." that shows that he doesnt have a good enough reason to give this girl. he is obviously putting himself down by saying he is a mess and a closet you can't close. However, I am confused about the "devil in you i suppose cuz the wounds never heal". I don't get it. but my absolute favorite part of the song is "say that forever is more than just a word".its impossible to live forever, but love can last forever. Even when people die, memories of their love remain. Forever is more than just a word when you find the one person who you love so much, and the love between you can never die.

My Interpretation

I Think when he says the devil in you, he's talking about him being the devil in her? Because he hurts her so much with the things that he does and he doesn't seem to be able to make it better.

I would have to say this is my first response to a song on this site... but out of any song in my life right now this hits the deepest.

basically i am 22 yrs old... i got with my high school sweet heart when i was seventeen. our relationship lasted for about five years. nothing he or i can do will let us move on still to this day.

if we could just turn back the years and forgive each other we would be the happiest people i know. it sucks when you love someone so much and you've been together for so long but that so long brings along alot of past with it. in our case we we're young, he did his dirt, i did mine... but regardless of it all the love is real.

we're goin through some rough times right now... both of us tried to move on but we are miserable. every time we try to get it back to like it was it seems to take to long and someone just walks away and there is nothing the other can do about it...

**When it's just me and you Who knows what we could do? If we can just make it through The toughest part of the day

when you know that someone special is so important to you that your willing to change and you want them to stick by your side and try also... this song will have you finding yourself on the floor curled up in a ball wishing it could work.

the best song on the album by far, this song must be for his wife Vanessa for putting up with Aaron's problems.I know exactly how he feels i have been there and still my wounds won't heal.

A very passive way of looking at his marriage. Saying she has the right to walk away from the "mess she chose". He also mentions that he will change, and everything could be better if she forgives him. I love the way the chorus strings together.

This song has what I has been looking for in all of staind's music...intricate guitar play..... the solo on this song is top rate and this song is so incredible...... I think chapter V is by far staind's best work........

I agree, this is one of their better songs as in a musical sense. What really got me was how he can turn feelings into lyrics in the purest form. Fortunately, I'm not in that situation, but I can relate to the struggle of baggage conflicting with current relationships. I need these songs to channel my emotions into just to get by. Thankyou Staind!

I can't believe more people haven't commented on this song, it is by far the best one on the album, although, "take this" is a close second. I think everyone can relate to this song. Yes, it does seem to be about his marriage...but the lyrics are so heartful and meaningful...I loooove it. Definately a great song.

Anyone that has loved and lost on account of themselves can relate to this song.

If you have you know the feeling of the world around you melting and the feeling in your heart you get the first time it really hits you that you screwed this perfect place up... The cold overwhelming emptiness that leaves you breathless.

To roll over in the middle of the night and reach for someone only to find it was a dream. Its been a dream... Your still alone. And you have no one to blame but yourself.

"If you just walked away, What could I really say? Would it matter anyways? Would it change how you feel?" This part is deep for me. You can hear it in his voice(i like the acoustic version the best). His feelings are on fire. He wants more than anything to wrap her up in his arms. For her to trust him. For her to let go and let him in again. But she won't. Its too late and nothing that he could possibly do or say will change the way she feels anymore. She's all he wants... but she's gone... and he's stuck knowing that the chance that only comes around once in this life has passed him by and its his fault.

I feel this man. I hear this song and i want to drop to my knees and let go. How do you feel toward someone again when you lose that person you want to spend the rest of your life with because of your actions?

I didnt hear this song until recently but I havent taken it off repeat yet. Next to Zoe Jane this song is the most meaningful of all of staind's songs.
