Struggle

Okay, i get the "internal struggle" bit, but where's all this athlete part? Have you taken Hollywood Bowl out of control all over the song? What about Elvis? Sounds to me a bit like a kid who's thinking he doesn't belong in his family ("milk the mailboy", "make sense of the mess") and is struggling with being in a family he doesn't want "I just want to free myself - but it's a struggle I just want to stay in bed I just want to be myself - but it's a struggle" The whole bed=womb thing is a good interpretation though.

I don't think the verses have any clear meaning, and may just stream be of consciousness.

I love this song. It's weird and i really have no clue what it means. Maybe it's about how hard it is to give up things. I dunno.

This song is about someone who is trying to move on but is being held back. That is obvious, what isn't obvious I think is that it is told in two perspectives. The chorus is a different person, even tho the singer does not change. The person sung about is some kind of former athlete, who is wanting to return to a dangerous sport, which he refers to as "bed" in the chorus. The bed is sometimes call the womb, or place of familiarity. That's what this arean of competition is to this former player, his place where he belongs. His friends however know that he should no longer be doing what he once did, and they are happy to have him on the sidelines where he might be physically safe, but is dying inside. OK, I could be wrong, but here's my interpetation of the song...I don't think it's about one particular thing, I think Scott is talking about a particular time in his life.

Could he be referring to Elvis Stojko kickboxing? Then the close shave...flipside....part meaning back on ice? Maybe they're friends???

The Hollywood Bowl is an Ampitheatre, so he's going to a concert...either as a spectator, or as a performer.

I think "Jack" - is him talking to whoever is listening - like saying 'dude' 'pal' whatever...and he's saying waiting sucks...he's waiting to hear news...possibly about his career? Management/agent/whoever says they'll return a call and they don't...

Hmmmm....maybe he put it in cause it sounded good...or maybe he has a professional as well as a personal relationship with whomever he is waiting to hear from and they show two sides...one hanging out as friends - another handling business.

Hmmmm, maybe the mailboy could be literal...wanting to check up on a girlfriend, maybe he doesn't trust her? OR 'mailboy' could be another term for 'messenger...as in his girlfriends friend...someone he could pump for info? Just guessing....

Think this is him reassuring himself that he ain't out of the running yet...whether it's personal or professional - unsure...but the last line here - where he changes person I think he's saying that over-analyzing all of his thoughts is making him crazy and is not helping to do anything but cause him anguish.

Anyway...like I said, it's just my interpetation, but no matter what it means, I love this song and really like Ringside.
