Reduced To Teeth Lyrics

Behind a mask, a man can bask
Only for so long, before being exposed
To the sun.
The moon is up, a whisper of
"'Till death do you wrong"...
Patients bother a patient doctor.
Plastics itch, and bandages,
The aftermath won't add up to this.
The fever breaks, and it would take
A masochist to live like this!

I buried my wife today,
Restitution for my sanity.

Chasing demons dressed like me
Their eyes are not like mine.
Ignorance is divine.
Instincts are reduced to teeth,
That bite the hand that feeds.
Fear thy father love thy martyr.

The verdict of the jury hung on
The weight of what has become.
A starry night, a vengeful wish,
(It doesn't have to be like this!)

I buried my wife today...
Restitution for my sanity.
I buried my wife today...
Restitution for my sanity.

Sound the alarm and make
No mistake about this...

All the king's horses and all the king's men
Have been sent to put this boy back
Together again, but somehow,
He must have been predicting the fall...

Caged rats, experiments,
A brain with no oxygen.
Release all the hostages,
You've got to wash your hands of this...

Caged rats, experiments,
A brain with no oxygen.
Release all the hostages,
You've got to wash your hands of this...

The verdict of the jury hung on
The weight of what has become.
A starry night, a vengeful wish,
(It doesn't have to be like this!)

Murder! Murder! Murder! Murder!

ok, i think everyone has it wrong. Let's look at the title to one of finch's songs, "The Casket of Roderick Usher". In this, we know that he is an Edgar Allan Poe fan. Now, if all of you will read the Poe short story, "Berenice" I think you will see where he found the inspiration for "Reduced to Teeth". Once you read this, it's pretty self-explanatory. You people should read more!

okay, the first 4 lines are talking about trying to become perfect, and trying to say that you're better because you're supposedly Christian. "Til death do you wrong" refers to how some believe we become perfect in death, and only in death. "Patients bother a patient doctor" mortals pray to God for change in the stead of taking it upon themselves. "it would take a masochist to live like this" talking about how we constantly put our selves down to move forward. "ignorance is divine" that's soooo obvious and only proves my point, they're speaking out against religion. "Instincts are reduced to teeth, That bite the hand that feeds. Fear thy father love thy martyr." it's talking about how the religious types say 'we sin against god, fear him and love those who die for him' I'm unclear on the next stanza, but I think it's talking about how the religious convict others, even though the bible clearly states "only god can judge" "sound the alarm and make no mistake about this" = 'this is your warning' "All the king's horses and all the king's men Have been sent to put this boy back Together again, but somehow, He must have been predicting the fall..." someone turning from god with every intention to do so, whom the religious can't 'help' as they see fit. "Caged rats, experiments," they are god's lab rats A brain with no oxygen." they don't think for ourselves. Release all the hostages," some are starting to free their minds You've got to wash your hands of this..." you've got to think differently

this is one of my favorite songs on the album, and i only just now think that i might know what Nate is singing about. Okay, lets just put Nate as the narrator of the song. In it, I think Nate murders someone important to him and then tries to commit suicide afterwards. I'm not so sure about the suicide part though. But I definately get the vibe that he murdered someone, and tried living with the fact that he was a murderer, and his conscience caught up to him and he was worrying about whether people would find out that he was the murderer or not.

this song might or might not tie in with Insomniatic Meat, where Nate sings about murdering people in his sleep. If people have any other ideas, then definately add.

i think this song is easy to interret, but icould be an idiot and get it all wrong. but here goes.

its about his father, or grandfather. His wife was sick in the hospital for a while for something bad, and in a comatose state "a brain with no oxygen" and i think that it got to the point to where they had to decide to take her off life support, and the father/grandfather blames himself for her death. He tries to pretend that he's ok "behind a mask, a man can bask", but everyone knows that he's not. He feels like he murdered his own wife and its driving him insane. Nate tries to console him by telling him that shes better off because hospital patients are metaphorically "caged rats" where the doctors do "experiments" to find out whats wrong, and that he needs to let go of the past and stop blaming himself"you've got to wash your hands of this" At the same time Nate is upset with the person for beating themselves up like that when they knew that her death was inevitable."All the king's horses and all the king's men Have been sent to put this boy back Together again, but somehow, He must have been predicting the fall..."

i remember nate saying in a video that this album was more personal, and the the lyrics involved personal things that he never talked about before. so that made me look at it at a different way.

After much, much thought and discussion, I feel that this song is about doing something horrible and unforgiveable and having to live with yourself afterwards in total remorse and regret.

Welp, I haven't read Berenice yet but I think this is about euthanasia.

I think it might be about medical testing on humans going terribly wrong.

Either way, I like the images this song puts in my head. It gives me visuals of a pretty night sky, dark hospital scenes, abandoned laboratories, and random bloodstains. I think "a starry night, a vengeful wish" is my favorite line.
