I think this song is pretty straight forward, Im sure there's different interpretations of the people involve but... a young girl falls in love with either a literal BUM or a total waste of space of a guy. In case no one know what a "dynamo" is, it's an old power generator, the first electrical generators capable of delivering power for industry. So dynamo could be his crusty old heart, a literal dynamo, or your interpretation of what it may be.
