Wasted Years Lyrics

Slow is the memory
I can picture her standin' right in front of me
Orange blossoms crushed on concrete
I walk around with bare feet, 'cuz I know you want me

Can't remember anything
Her skin it tastes like sugar cane
And I had already gotten there before I came
My tank is empty and I know you're thirsty

But I have already tried to explain myself
It's not that I love someone else
But I can't bear to listen to your cry, yeah
I'm sick of all these wasted years
A rag for someone else's tears
I wring you out as I hang you out to dry
No, no, no, no, no, no, yeah

And I'll see you when I get back
Maybe we can get ourselves back on the right track
You touch me there because you know how much I like that
I think that we will need to relax 'cuz I know you want me

All the time and everywhere
A happy surface but the underbelly isn't there
The worst thing is that I don't even really care
The emptiness is too much to bear

But I have already tried to explain myself
It's not that I love someone else
But I can't bear to listen to your cry
I'm sick of all these wasted years
A rag for someone else's tears
I wring you out as I hang you out to

C'mon c'mon, get off the phone, please, come home
It's been so lonely since you've been gone
Your love surround me, up and down me
Be all around me, baby, I can't breathe no more

C'mon c'mon, get off the phone, please, come home
It's been so lonely since you've been gone
Your love surround me, up and down me
Be all around me, baby, I can't breathe no more

But I have already tried to explain myself
It's not that I love someone else
But I can't bear to listen to your cry
I'm sick of all these wasted years
A rag for someone else's tears
I wring you out as I hang you out to dry

Sick of all these wasted years
A rag for someone else's tears
I wring you out as I hang you out to, to, dry
To try, try to get back home

Try, you try, yeah

Oh I absolutely adore this song, it's one of my favourites even when I only heard it live. So extremely sexy, to me it expresses how hard it can be to know that the relationship you are in is harmful and going nowhere...but you still can't let go...you are not ready to say goodbye even when it's sophocating you...He's saying "I'm sick of all these wasted years", but at the same time he begs her to get off the phone and be with him once again. Gosh, I know how that hurts, still being caught up by emotion and temptation :(

Gud song yeah . Another peppy tune and jazzy sound backed by Levine's swaying voice. And guys guess what ? Another maroon 5 song with sexual context. LOL. Still gr8 .

This is a cool song! I don't have their new album or anything, but i have their live CD, and this great song is on it. Maroon 5 talks about sex a lot, including this song. The sun has, like, 5 sexual references.

I love this song, There is something about Maroon 5 that you cant help but love. But anyways

This song to me is about a guy in a relationship Who is tired of his girlfriend crying over an ex boyfriend she has not yet gotten over. He thought that she would get over him a while ago but it hasnt happened (im sick of all wasted years) (A rag for someone elses tears) The gf crying over her ex. So he wants to take a break and maybe it'll be better after they have seperated. (And Ill see you when i get back maybe we could get ourselves back on the right track). but he is not positive that thier relationship can go on until she gets over her ex. Thats what it sounds like to me. You know?

I don't think it's crying about an ex as it says "cause I know you want me". I reckon it's more about her wanting him whilst he doesn't want her and is trying to get rid of her but can't as it sounds like he can't leave because of the sex.

I've loved "Wasted Years" since the first time I ever heard it live, for more than 7 years. I was excited to learn it was going to be on "Overexposed" and I was eager to listen to the studio version. Even though I enjoyed the arragments they did at the beggining of the song, I was dissapointed with the result. I think the song lost its bittersweet feeling, and in my opinion the lyrical changes were absurd. What a pity.

This was originally planned for Maroon 5's debut album Songs About Jane, but didn't make the final track listing. A live performance at the Santa Barbara Bowl was included on the 2005 long player Live - Friday the 13th, but fans had to wait until the deluxe version of the band's 2012 Overexposed for a studio version.

This samples the Little Richard track "The Rill Thing," which is a popular choice for artists looking for a beat. Pete Rock, Common, and Mos Def have sampled the track as well.
