The Ghost of What Should Have Been Lyrics

What else in this room reminds me of you?
The windowsill with a crucified pit of an avocado still sits in water.
What else in this room reminds me of the relationship I've ruined?
The tables I made strong enough to hold your magazines,
but not your tired legs.

One more week in this apartment,
One more week of being haunted
By the ghost of what should have been.

What else in this fucking empty room
reminds me of fucking you?
An orphaned couch where I spent some long nights
While you went out with our friends.

What I wouldn't do to be a ghost like you,
to be somewhere new.
To leave everything,
The way you left everything that reminded you of me.

One more week in this apartment,
one more week of being haunted.

Owen is incredible. Another great song.

I thought it was interesting how ruben set up the format of the lyrics.

I am still wondering what the one week is counting down to and how he is going to be going after the time elapses.

When I saw him live he was playing in a church. He changed the lyrics in the 3rd stanza from "What else in this fucking empty room reminds me of fucking you?" to "what else in this fucking holy room, reminds me of fucking the holy shit out of you". Needless to say, it was awesome.

hm... its funny how we allow memories of someone we care so much about hold importance in simple objects. i hate it. but simple things in a room can remind you of someone... someone you just dont want to remember.

i think it's about the woman he was living with herself. probably metaphorically.

the line "The tables I made strong enough to hold your magazines, but not your tired legs" is what makes me think so. plus the whole ghost/leaving theme that it has.

i really dont the line about the tables is metaphorical. I'm willing to bet its just something that really happened with this girl. He made a table that they kept magazines and what not on and one day it collapsed while she had her legs resting on it. Same with the avocado and couch lines. The only metaphor would be the ghost line and he's just saying that she still haunts the place because so many things make him think of her.
