Guarded

Guys, let us not go overboard and >overanalyze< the song... while Disturbed is including a segment from a Bush speech on their album, that does not mean that the song has to be about war- sure, there can be metaphorical content, but in order to prove that we'd need to hear the rest of the album, which we haven't.

This song seems to be about someone who had, for whatever reason, encountered a breakup- but its from the point of view of the person who's doing the breaking. The line "Just another tie... I know I need to sever" particularly the point of NEEDING to sever away from the relashionship, perhaps indicates an abusive relashionship... though it can relate to all or any of the people we've broken up with.

The chorus, "Guarding yourself from the love another, left you with nothing tonight" can be taken literally; the breakup has left you with nobody to be with on that lonely night.

"Ever haunted, by the trappings of this life Sweet Redemption Just in front of me Well now, it seems once again that I've lost another one of the one's that have broke through the wall Damned"

These lines show how tempted you are to get back into the relashionship, just so you can be with someone on those lonely nights...

The lines regarding "compromise" seem to show how there's no possible way to get exactly what you want- to have all the positives of the relashionship with a balance of the negatives. Those lines speak of how the negatives will outweigh the positives... but then, the chorus comes in and speaks of how there is "Nothing tonight" indicating that the destruction of the negative aspects also destroys all of the positives along with it.

I think this song is about a person who was too afraid to love another and then when the other person left, that person wondered why this happened to them. and David is just telling the person how they fucked up, and why the person feels like shit.

Like many other bands and artists, Disturbed's new CD will focus on "war" and current events, so I would say this song has something to do with that. I hope that their new CD will be even better than their other ones, and after this song, it seems pretty damn likely.

The song is about being afraid to get attached anyone because "someone" decided to fight an "all for nothing" war.

For clarity, the song with a bush speech is not "Guarded." This can be misinterpreted, as what I wrote above was slightly unclear.

Well, regardless about what Disturbed meant (im sure the meaning is somewhere on their site, just like david posted one about all the others) this song still kicks ass.

I believe this song, is about being afraid to commit....maybe he cares about this person and he's trying hard to overcome his demons but just can't "Well now, it seems once again that I've lost another one of the one's that have broke through the wall Damned Fate won't compromise"

That can be taken literally...we all have a "wall" or "shell" that seems to be unbreakable..where we're leary to let people in..because, in my experience atleast..I've wound up hurt..and he lost another one that broke though the "wall" lost another person that got through his inner defenses

"Fate won't compromise" - I dunno about the rest of you..but I believe in karma and such...I believe in fate..and him saying fate won't compromise tells me that he believes he's cursed to be alone..and fate won't compromise to let him have anyone...

anyway that's what I think the song means to me... your guys' theorys are also great, the thing about music is it's meant to mean different things to different people..it's open for interpretation to fit the individuals own experiences/personality/point of view,...whatever.
