Recovery Lyrics

Scared to open up these eyes
See just what's inside
Twisted and cold
This house is not a home
Help me now
I'm dying here all alone

This is not a new game
So don't think that you know

Casually I confide
Awake and paralyzed
Forever in one word
Forever is the longest time
It's the only cure
I'm not sure I'll survive

This is not a new game
So don't think that you know

Can you see these blood shot eyes?
And can you see...

That my strength is failing
And I can't go on this way
And this hearts not beating
It just doesn't seem the same
And my strength is failing
And I can't go on this way
Can't go on this way

Promise me, Promise me
Promise me, You will not ever leave
Promise me, You will not ever leave
Promise me, You will not ever leave
Promise me, You will not ever leave
You will not ever leave

And my strength is failing
And I can't go on this way
And this heart's not beating
It just doesn't seem the same

I think this song is about dealing with your problems...and having someone there to support you. They will never know exactly what it feels like but them being there is important be it a close friend or a partner.

The last few lines:

'And my strength is failing And I can't go on this way And this heart's not beating It just doesn't seem the same'

Is about overcoming the problem, it gets really hard and sometimes you feel as if you cant cope and you dont feel like the person you use to be, you just want things to be how they were.

these lyrics are too mish mash and vague for me but if i had a gun held to my head i'd take the guess its about growing up and leaving your childhood behind and being scared of what you might become. The line 'Scared to open up these eyes See just what's inside' gives me the feeling of being frightened of what you might become. 'Promise me, You will not ever leave' gives me the feeling the person is pleading that his/her childhood never leaves him/her. The again the rest of the lyrics don't reeeeeally go with this but what the hey, one of best songs they've ever done.

btw can anyone hear/make out what matt says after 'You will not ever leave' the first and last times? it's really really faint but i can just make out him saying something, sounds like 'again' but yeh toodles .xX

lucky bastards get to go to their concerts, i live in ontario and they are like never around.. its depressing. i think the only thing that sucks about this song is trying to figure out the meaning.. like what you all said could go with it..i was going to say i think its about a break up but then half the lyrics dont go with it.. an awesome song though xx

Matts not even sure what this song is about himself, he said there were original lyrics written for the song in weird periods when he was "totally fucking drunk". But he re-wrote the lyrics, in total train of thought style, and it came out like it has.

Zedzed, "Promise me, You will not ever leave" I think all he says afterwords is again, "Promise me, You will not ever leave..again" Would make sense..But you're right, its hard to understand if there's anything else said.

I think this song is all about trying to get together with somebody. But each time he gets close, something happens and he is pushed away again - its like a constant game "this is not a new game, so don't think that you know", he is afraid to look within as he knows the truth, nothing will ever happen "scare to open up these eyes to see just what's inside" - He KNOWS what is inside. By the end of the song he eventually he gets very close and asks for her to "promise me you will not ever leave", but it happens again and he is pushed away. She cant see what she is doing to him "can you see these bloodshot eyes". By now, his "strength is failing" and the relationship has been left scarred "It just doesn't feel the same".

The despair in that you need that somebody to keep you standing, but a reliance on a specific individual can easily backfire. He's used to people rejecting him or not taking him seriously seeing as how he's claiming that it is not a "new game." But it sounds as though maybe this person may already be walking away for whatever reason.

This song to me, like most Funeral songs, I beleive is about a relationship. A friendship especially. It belongs to an ex friend of mine and I. One person, who is compeltely insecure, and cannot face another day, because they live in perpetual fear of a friend leaving them. The person believes they will die alone, because their best friend has abandoned them. They cry, and so the blood shot eyes. They cannot continue, because they don't have that confidement anymore. And when the person is going to leave, they feel hollow trying to confide anything in them, because they know they will be made a fool. They ask they never leave. It always felt obvious that it was about a relationship. This song is incredible, and described 9 months of my life.
