The Mixed Tape

I read a biography on Andrew once, which explains this song. Before he became famous, he was dating this girl for about 3 years, before they had to break up because him touring was straining the relationship. If you listen to some of the songs from Something Corporate, they deal with the breaking from distance. That's what the song Konstantine is about, and also this song. It seems obvious he still loves this girl, "and you said you meant it, that theres a piece of me in every second of every single day, but if it's true then tell me how it got this way". If you look through out the song there are definetly hints that this song is about distance being the cause of a break up.

I think he says bitch, not that it matters. In iTunes, the song is labeled as explicit. So unless the English language adapted another "explicit word" that I'm not aware of, he says bitch.

he DOES say "bitch." quit whining about how much you think that one word "ruins the song." it makes it better, especially since that's exactly how he wanted to word it. if he wanted to say "mix," he would have used that word instead; you should be satisfied with the song the way it is because the artist (the amazing andrew ^_^ ) spent time phrasing things in a way that held the most meaning for him. in the song, he's worked himself up into a frenzied emotional state, plus he isn't referring to the girl as the bitch, he's referring to the eponymous tape. it actually is fairly common slang to refer to an object other than a woman as a bitch. and IMHO I think this was someone he was in a relationship with (clearly, I think everyone understands at least that much), and things were good, but then something on her end went sour. I believe it is because she somehow changed, for the worse, and so the relationship ended. Maybe she cheated on him, which would make sense; you could still have the motivation to end it but that doesn't mean your feelings for them do too. So I think he compiled a list of songs and things, for her (just like he says). I'm sure it contains "their song" and other ones that are reminiscent of the good times, but also bitter ones, like out of spite. Because let's face it, we'd all be bitter over something like this, especially over something we want but we can't have either because it doesn't want us or we know it's bad for us.

In a weird kind of way, I relate to it. I have this habit of forming "soundtracks" in my mind that correlate to certain people, and certain events and chapters of my life. I've found it helps keep me sane when things get crazy because it reminds me that there's always someone else who understands.

This song probably originated from the frustration of having the person you once loved become an enemy sorta (breaking into his house, etc). I've never really been in that situation of love turned to hate and having to deal with that change, but I'm sure it's hard and you almost feel like the person hasn't just changed, but become someone else entirely and it's just like "where is the person I used to know?" I've had a few friends like this, but never a significant other...

This song is simply what it's about. Making a Mix Tape.

It seems that he's torn by the distance between him and someone, so he just makes a mix tape (one of the best mix tapes ever from the sounds of it) to remind him of her. &then gives it to her, in order to remind her of him. She's always on his mind, and he's hoping this will reassure her. As for the breaking into houses part, I've always found that to be rather romantic sounding... as creepy as it sounds to other people. I've personally always wished someone would break into my house and leave me a love letter. It sounds as if he was surprised that she had said something like "there's a piece of you in every single day" and he wants to know if she really meant it...

However, that's just my two cents...

This is definitely my favorite song of all time, mostly because there is a story behind it: My boyfriend called me from vacation telling me about this song, so I downloaded it and immediately fell in loveeeee. He left for college, and we ended up breaking up, and this song has come to define our relationship.

I LOVE the part where he sings: "theres a piece of me in every single second of every single day, but if it's true then tell me how we got this way..."

He is desperate for the girl he is writing this to. He's confused and frustrated, and this EXACTLY defines my feelings for my now ex-boyfriend.

His confusion is also present when he sings "I can't get to you, i can't get to you....."

He feels so completely helpless. Don't you love when you can find a song that explains exactly how you're feeling inside? Andrew has a tendency to do that for me :)

I have to comment on the gf->enemy thing. So after spending all this time in the relationship, you get close and something happens that splits you. It doesn't have to be one thing you can point to, maybe you grew apart. Now when people talk about how similar the two of you are you don't want to hear it because it hurts. You know that some difference is big enough to split you up.

Then he has the line: You said you meant it there's a piece of me in every single second of every single day

She still thinks of you, and you her, which is shown in the lines: It's when I spend the most time Thinking 'bout what I've given up . . . . . when you start the day just to close the curtains you're thinking 'bout what I've given up

Whatever it is that was given up ended it all. Then the last lines I'm cutting through you track by track I swear to God this mix could sink the sun But it was you I was thinking of

These lines make me think that the mix isn't for her as in to be given to her. It is for her like a dirge or an epitaph. It covers that part of your life that was hers. A story to tell the children about a love that was, but isnt.

This song is so powerful. It's like I wrote every note with my own finger.

this song has a really special meaning for me. i met one of my best guy friends in eighth grade andhe introduced me to a book (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, read it if you haven't) that revolved around a guy making a mixed tape for this girl that he really liked but thought that he could never have. the first time I heard this song, it was the same day that I learned that he had gone into rehab and I almost cried because the part that says "where are you now?" really matched my feelings. i'd like to think that he feels this way about me, but he's found a new group of friends and it breaks my heart to see him with them.

I love this song. And Andrews voice is amazing. This is a beautiful song.
