Replaceable

Yeah, its DEF brandon/killers. It just sounds a bit different cos its a demo and so not produced as well as the songs & b-sides from hot fuss, just like the other demos (oh yeah by the way, waiting for love etc.) Also, it was probably recorded before hot fuss so their voices/sound might've changed, deliberately or otherwise.

About the song, I agree with loveisblind, its unusually easy to decipher unlike many of their other songs which are open to various interpretations. One thing though; is the line 'its great to hear you're doing fine' said with a hint of sarcasm?

Agree with ricardo too, the vocals, lyrics, music, everything about this song is brilliant, and its so emotionally sung. 'Replaceable' is such an apt word in these situations. I was gonna say its one of their best but seeing as I'd say that about 20 of their songs, let's just say the Killers are one talented, amazing band. God I love them.

Let's talk weird. This song has been on my iPod for over a year, I never really listened to it. Today, getting ready for work, it randomly came on. It blew me away, not because it's great (which it is) but because it completely describes my current situation.

My girlfriend and I split in Feb, but remained roomies and friends due to financial shortcomings. She uses my car and I pay most of the bills. We promised to be honest about future relationships. 3 days ago I found out she's been seeing someone for a month, and everything came flooding back. I've been a wreck thinking about how I've been used and lied to.

I hate her and love her, this is what Flowers is describing. He's not over her, and barely is able to hide his disappointment when "talking to her," but will refuse to admit it. He goes from disgust to longing instantly. he's confused and wants answers ("I need to know"). He's defiant ("time teaches me to pretend it doesn't matter" & "call me useless, just you wait") calling her out (act like I never turned you on), sarcastic (i'ts great to hear you're doing fine) and secretly hurting inside (all I do is cry). Even the guitars carry angry riffs throughout.

You can actually hear his voice quiver ever so slightly at several points, just like someone trying to keep it together. I should know, I've been like that for a few days.

It hurts to know you're replaceable.

this song makes me think of how my bf felt when we broke up and he wanted me back. its about a guy who loves this girl and they had a relationship but she doesnt want to be with him anymore so he is trying not to lose her but he does which breaks his heart and she gets with someone else easily but he is still hung up making him feel replaceable

pick you up later on what to do? it doesn't matter 'cause you get what you want - reminds me wen my bf was tryin to win me back he worried about where to take me cos he wanted to inmpress me so its about a guy worrying bout impressing the girl he is losing through and through and if you shatter everything that we've got will you call me on occasion if you like it or not, oh no - she wants to break up and hes devastated and asks if they can still talk cos theyve obviously been together a while n she is a big part of his life, this makes me think of my bf wanting me to still chat now n again even if we didnt get bak togehter

so turn it up, take me down from the wall, it doesn't matter 'cause you get what you want after all - take me or leave me cos im so in love with you il do anything u want even if your treating me bad and having me when u wnt rather that always and now you've shattered everything that we had and you call me on occasion just to see how I am I'm hanging in - she is trying to hav a friend ship and he is coping badly with the breakup, before in the previous verse they were talkin bout break up cos it says "IF you shatter everything WILL you call me..." now it says you do call me so now theyve broken up

but now time teaches me to pretend it doesn't matter 'cause you get what you want in the end and now you've shattered everything he looks a bit like me - she always got what she wanted which was to break up (for anohter guy) and he is having to move on in time because she got what she wanted but he is starting to see her badly cos he did everything for her cos she got wat she wanted

replaceable it's cynical - she moved on easily from him cos hes replacebale call me useless; just you wait put me down and call it fate - said they wernt meant to b broken bridges, wasted hate - because she got with someone else it has ruined there friendship and what they had so just stand beside your man - shes with someone else the boy ain't wrong act like I never turned you on - pretend you didnt love me all I do is cry - he is still hung up on it and is more so that she isnt n that she moved on n possibly liked this new guy before they broke up

and you watched me die at least a thousand times - he took the break up rlly badly n she new he felt like that but it's great to hear you're doing fine - is happy she is hapy tonight, too late to fight but you've got inside this naive head of mine - naive thinking theyd b togethet always n tht she wouldnt hurt him but she has n is with soeone else now time goes by you knew you would you knew you would I need to understand replaceable

I think its about a woman that he feels is using him and then the minute something beter comes along she dumps him, then her new guy leaves her and she wants back with her old bf.

i agree with scottish lion but i think that while shes with her new bf the ex tries to play it cool like she doesnt matter to him while its killing him. when she wants him back he stays strong and doesnt give in even though he wants to and cries about it, then finally she moves on again

i'm pretty sure this song wont be on the new album, as its just a demo.

damn good song, though. brandon's voice in the demos seems almost slightly more delicate than on the album. i love it.
