Tom Waits Lyrics
Look, now just because we can't seem to get along without breaking the rules,
doesn't mean we can't walk on the wild side.
It doesn't mean we can't talk on the dirty side...
This malnutrition you've forced upon everyone, is still eating away at your insides,
fill your mind with this idiosyncrasy,
fill your head with indigenous lies...
Shut up, get down, you're blowing our cover!!!!
A startling glance at the future and past,
in our games we hide, in our ways we surpass.
But in all of my life, I've found nothing... like this.
I walk down these roads, you drive them like highways.
Not a care in your mind if you're doing the right thing.
In all of my life, I've never been so ashamed to say that I was right.
Your contribution has hoarded the masses now, and the thieves have decided to hide.
Ante up! Cause the enemy's coming,
and get your gun cause I'm already reloading...
Arm yourselves!!
doesn't mean we can't walk on the wild side.
It doesn't mean we can't talk on the dirty side...
fill your mind with this idiosyncrasy,
fill your head with indigenous lies...
Shut up, get down, you're blowing our cover!!!!
in our games we hide, in our ways we surpass.
But in all of my life, I've found nothing... like this.
I walk down these roads, you drive them like highways.
Not a care in your mind if you're doing the right thing.
In all of my life, I've never been so ashamed to say that I was right.
Ante up! Cause the enemy's coming,
and get your gun cause I'm already reloading...
Arm yourselves!!

"I walk down these roads, you drive them like highways. Not a care in your mind if you'er doing the right thing. In all of my life, I've never been so ashamed to say that I was right."
this part isn't in the song, but it's still part of the lyrics. Straight from the booklet included with the Doppelganger cd.
Yes, somehowcopacetic, tom waits is infact a band, not a person. This song isnt mocking tom waits but rather the band itself. Terrible
I think its funny. I don't think they were mocking anybody anyways, maybe they just did it cause they could... its what i'd do. Anyways, top song.
na its like wen peopel look online to download the fall of troy they get something that says tom waits on things like liimewire...thom n the band mustve thought it was pretty funny...i mean....u cant mock a poet like tom waits.. tom waits is pretty cool if ur into that sort of thing though
yea u gotta respect him...tom waits is amazing
"bviously, they got their name from the Tom Waits' song"
This isn't true. Tom has said many times in the past that he is a fan of Tom Waits, but they didn't get their name from his song. They got their name by opening up a history book and randomly pointing to a phrase.
At this one show, after they played this one song, Thom saw this guy hit a guy while crowd surfing, and he blew a gasket. He was all like "un-fucking-acceptable. we don't hit people. it's wrong." and then 5 seconds later, he goes, "Alright, this song is about hitting people, it's called Tom Waits."
i may just be trying to find a meaning that isnt there...or maybe this is just me overanalyzing...but The Fall of Troy seem to like to make literary references in their songs, evident in songs like Hol[]y Tape. This song may be a reference to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn/Tom Sawyer. The first chapter of Huck Finn is called "Tom Sawyer Waits"...and the lyrics seem to relate to the story of Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer. They were in a band of robbers, and found a large sum of gold, that was rationed off to giving them one dollar a day. Huck, being an 11 year old innocent child, may be seen as an annoyance to Tom...which would explain the part in the song...
fill your head with indigenous lies... Shut up, get down, you're blowing our cover!!!!
also, this phrase can be related to the story
But in all of my life, i've found nothing... like this. I walk down these roads, you drive them like highways. Not a care in your mind if you'er doing the right thing.
the improper grammar relates to the story. also, "found nothing...like this" could be talkin about the gold they found.
personal interpretation...feedback appreciated
oh i didnt see your post when i made mine lol

Wrong, wrong wrong, haha, well They actually got their name for Looking through a history book and finding something that sounded cool. And I'm pretty sure this song is full of House Of Leaves refferences too
