Light up the moon, scratching and burning, pieces of you.
Something is bigger and brighter(On the other side!)
Put down your books, and pick up your lighters!
Scare me if you can, nothing can happen
You stay heavy on my mind, can't escape you if I try, cause I know you're gonna ride.
Silenced.
Sleeping all day because you know you can't escape the night.
I don't have anything better to do than you.
Higher, higher than I could ever get again in my life.
Cause I don't desire anything but you.
I can pick you up and undress you.
Take your blue dress off and mess me up tonight.
Expensive crescent impress me with your presence, now digest your tensions.
Officially licensed, to wreck your excitement.
You stay heavy on my mind, can't refuse you if I try, make me afraid not to lie.
Now I'm on a fucking head-trip!
Regurgitate all your ambitions...
Caught up in this so bad, I'm losing my head.
IS THIS A SUBLIMINAL HIT!?
Sure I say I'm alright, but it's not all fine.

Could be about hallucinogenic mushrooms. The crescent could refer to the tops of the mushrooms if they were cut up to be smoked; And sometimes, when hallucinating, it can feel like your face is melting off and other strange sensations, which may lead to scratching (though i think that line more refers to the crushing and packing before it is smoked). "Scare me if you can, nothing can happen. You stay heavy on my mind, can't escape you if I try, cause I know you're gonna ride." is saying he's not afraid of a bad trip, because he knows it isn't real and he just has to wait it out. "Silenced. Sleeping all day because you know you can't escape the night." refers to the altered state of perception blocking the reality around you. "Regurgitate all your ambitions" ... you often feel sick from the mushrooms. Blue dress would be the stems, and eating the cap would be undressing it.

So it could be about eating/smoking hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Now sure what the first verse means... But The second one is pretty self explainitory.

Also, just for reference, a "head-trip" is an Acid Trip.

And It would be nice if you groups these, and all the other lyrics you submitted, jhigday, into verses, not all one jumble.

I totally agree with whattheballs, but i'd like to focus more on the band itself rather than the song.

The band is unique, in a way, 3 members and still amazing songs. Most people thought it wouldn't have been possible, with bands like Alkaline Trio just taking the stand with 3 members. But they did it, and will forever be remembered by me as the 'Little band that could'

Up until the acid trip part, everthing else seemed like pretty direct refrences to marijuana

I think its an analogy comparing a girl to marijuana/acid.

In the sense that shes an addiction and makes him feel good, but in reality shes really bad for him and manipulates his actions

"You stay heavy on my mind, can't refuse you if I try, make me afraid not to lie."

I also think "IS THIS A SUBLIMINAL HIT!?" might mean something significant just not completely sure what or how significant.

Actually, it's not about marijuana. It's about smoking oxycodone (or commonly known as OxyContin).

The pills usually come in color coded capsules, blue indicating the more common dosage, which is also mistaken for a time release coat. So people remove the blue coating -

("I can pick you up and undress you. Take your blue dress off and mess me up tonight.)

    • in order to get more fucked up. When you smoke it, the smoke leaves a DARK TRAIL.

Since oxycodone is an opiod, it works by binding to opioid receptors found in the central neverous system and gastrointestinal tract ("Digest your tensions") maybe?

    Makes sense to me.

It's kindof depressing finding out that a lot of my favorite bands' songs have direct drug references - not just TFOT.

After that explanation, it makes a whole lotta sense. I'm assuming the "put down your books" part is dropping out of school to smoke. But what's with the moon (1st, 2nd lines)?

    • Well not necessarily dropping out but at least neglecting school work.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
