Hitler in My Heart Lyrics
As I search for a piece of kindness
And I find Hitler in my heart
And he is whispering
"As sure as love will spring
From the Well of Blood in Vain, oh Jew!
The Well of Blood in Vain!"
La la la la la la
And I fell into a deeper precipice
With mouths of rapists
Jaws dropped down
Jaws dropped down
Jaws dropped
Don't punish me
For wanting your love inside of me
Don't punish me
For wanting your love inside of me
And I find Hitler in my heart
From the corpses flowers grow
And I find Hitler in my heart
From the corpses flowers grow
And I find Hitler in my heart
From the corpses flowers grow
Flowers grow
From the corpses flowers grow
Flowers grow
And I find Hitler in my heart
"As sure as love will spring
From the Well of Blood in Vain, oh Jew!
The Well of Blood in Vain!"
La la la la la la
With mouths of rapists
Jaws dropped down
Jaws dropped down
Jaws dropped
For wanting your love inside of me
Don't punish me
For wanting your love inside of me
From the corpses flowers grow
From the corpses flowers grow
From the corpses flowers grow
Flowers grow
From the corpses flowers grow
Flowers grow

This song is a bit obscure but the idea of trying to find something good inside yourself and finding evil is unsettling. This is mirrored in the bizarre Sparks-esque piano to full blown sweeping opera. Trying to love someone but struggling to overcome something incredibly dark inside yourself. A song to be listened to when hurrying to do something crucially important or limbering up for the fight of your life.
i vaguely agree with the above comments... i would just like to add: "From the corpes flowers grow" seems to be a direct or an indirect reference to T.S Eliot's The Wasteland. This, in the poem serves to suggest, that first death must occur for beauty to spring. That from the ruins of a life beauty and nature are reborn.
If anyone can link this to the song then.... good, my work here is done!
"We all have Hitler in us, but we also have love and peace. So why not give peace a chance for once?" -John Lennon
I hate the beginning of the song, the rapid piano is so unappealing to me. And even though I find the lyrics to be intriguing, the beginning just feels to obnoxious.
The last half, on the other hand, is sadly gorgeous. Antony's declaration grow from the corpses" is such a beautiful statement to make regarding such unspeakable horrors. Simlpy stunning.
I think that the line ”From the corpses flowers grow” refers to the actuality that even from pure evil good things can be born.
As some others have also said above, i don't really think it's about loving anybody or leaping for faith. I think it takes base in that hitler was cruel as hell but still also brought something good with him. Cause at least we sure as hell learned something from that man, if it was either the idea of trying to change for "better" or to learn that our evil is well enough "rightous" enough to be here... cause there also is no ethical question in it, just a your thing is as good as mine, both have flowers and corpses. Just my general idea
I think Antony's work is characterized by honesty and courage. In this song, the courage is that of admitting monstrosity as something fundamentally human. No true monsters exist outside of our species, after all. In the lyrics, I think there's a parallel and a symmetry between finding Hitler in his heart when searching for a piece of kindness, and falling into the mouths of rapists while wanting their love inside of him.
[Edit: My previous comment was too verbose.]
Does this have anything to do with the fact that Antony and David Tibet of Current 93 (who has a slight fascination with Hitler) are friends?
the spirit is very similar to "john wayne gacy, jr. by Stevens sufjan" the song talk about what is to feel like a murder.. going inside his mind.. understand him.. cause the
contrary to love is not hate .. it´s ignorance..
A bit too theatrical.
