Sorry Charlie Lyrics

You did nothing to deserve this
God didn't treat you square
Oh it all slipped through your fingers
And it all seems so unfair

And your girlfriend, she's in high school
She says she loves you a lot
Lord knows she can't support you
So you better sell more pot

And now you're standing at the station
Tryin' to take what I ain't got to give
Oh and I'm so sorry Charlie
I've got my own life to live
So you just call your friends at college
Wonder why you didn't stay
And my boss is coming down soon Chuck
He's drunk and you can't stay
No, you can't stay

Sorry Charlie -- Sorry Charlie -- Oww!

Why has noone mentioned the fact there is a whole first part of the song missing? Here are the lyrics...

Things didn't work out the way you had planned it Things fell apart at the seams Whats yours is what you took with you and what you have has shattered their dreams and now your cold and sleepy Christ, how did it come to this? Hold on to those you thought were your loved ones they'll be the ones you miss And now your standing at the station trying to take what I ain't got to give oh and I'm so sorry Charlie I got my own live to live Just call your friends at college wonder why you didn't stay and my boss is coming down soon Chuck he's drunk and you cant stay no you cant stay

Don't understand why someone would put up half the song but oh well here is the first part of the brilliant song!

This song is so desperately dreary... I wonder who Charlie was.

i disagree: I feel like the song is ween sick of charlie complaining all the time. basically, this song is almost sarcastic. "im so sorry charlie, i got my own life to live, so just call your friends at college..." i think they are sick of their drug dealer selling them drugs because hes always bitchin about how his life sucks and ween just says "sorry, charlie"...

This is a great song for a beginning guitar player to learn.

Remember, this was written by Deaner when he was around 20 years old. Back when they were unknown and he was just a gas jockey, in the same vein as Pumpin' 4 The Man. A friend of theirs left them behind to go to college, but failed out, started selling pot and mooching off people, and came back looking to Deaner for help. Deaner doesn't feel too sympathetic for the guy and doesn't have a lot to give him. Charlie probably didn't have time when he was in college, and now he's back looking for Deaner's help, who's been stuck in New Hope pumping gas all this time.

Charlie's the irresponsible college dropout, while Deaner's the poor, hard working guy who doesn't feel too sorry for him, i.e, "just call your friends at college, wonder why you didn't stay, my boss is coming down soon Chuck, he's drunk so you can't stay".

There's actually a live version of this song on Youtube where Deaner, when introducing the song, says "It's about this dude Chuck that we used to know."

A little bit of truth in many of statements here. Mickey has sat in with local Philly area band SpiTune at John & Peter's a couple of times in New Hope. Here he goes into some detail. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVbZ9nbC5lk Chuck was the prototypical rich kid from the area who went to U of Florida, was a quarterback, and got thrown off the team. He also sold pot. His mom came down to the gas station where Mickey worked and scratched him, blaming him in part for her son's mistakes.

This is a story about a high school friend of Dean's. I've seen them live three times. The time they played this song, Dean sang for a change.. He also sings on The Blarney Stone and a few others.

As an intro to the song, Dean said it was about a friend who screwed him over. If I remember correctly, his friend got caught selling. His friend's father found out, so the friend blamed it on Dean. The friend went off to college while Dean worked at a gas station, partially due to taking the fall. A bit later, his former friend came to him, desperate for help. Why? I don't remember. But he said Sorry Charlie, you've burnt that bridge.

So essentially, this song is about how bridges once burnt are no longer crossable.
