Ataraxia Lyrics
Froze asleep
Coma deep
I dream I'm not out with you
Alone at sea
And you watched the waves
And you sang to me
As we sink
I dream I'm not out with you
Dropping deep
Below the sea
This dream I had with you
Alone at sea
And we watch the waves
You sing to me
As we sink
This dream I had with you
Alone at sea...
Coma deep
I dream I'm not out with you
Alone at sea
And you sang to me
As we sink
I dream I'm not out with you
Below the sea
This dream I had with you
Alone at sea
You sing to me
As we sink
This dream I had with you
Alone at sea...

Literally, he's singing about a siren. Her songs bring him into a dream state of mind, away from her and the danger she brings. She's bringing him down, destroying him slowly, but he can't do anything, because all that matters is her song. He watches her bring him to his own demise, but that doesnt matter, because all that matters now is her song and euphoric seduction.
this song could mean that he's with someone he really doesnt want to be with, who's even dangerous for him to be with, but he cant leave her because there's just something about her that lures him in again. she's destroying him, but he's so sick with her spell, he doesnt care, and he can't do anything at this point but watch it happen.
This is the best explanation. Thanks deliciosa.

I like how it's a peaceful dream, and the song gives the feeling of nothing mattering except his lover and her singing. And at the same time, they're sinking below the sea, and she's still singing, and that's all that matters. Watching the waves together as they sink.
I think the title of the song tells the story. Ataraxia is a peaceful or serene state of mind. I think he's talking about being in a peaceful dream that is about his lover. Not too complex.
This is about being in one of those relationships where you both isolate yourselves from others and live in the you and I. I think hes at the crossroads of loving being with her and having his old life.
I keep thinking of "The Perfect Storm" right before the waves come down on Mark Wahlbergs character. I think this song is a story and not so much about a particular event.
Such a great song. One of my fav's ever.
Woah i realised the meaning about being in a dangerous relationship, but didn't see the very obvious reference to sirens! :|
Many parallels between this song and Deftones "Cherry Waves." I feel there is a thematic link to both sets of lyrics.
Ataraxia (at′ərak′sē-ə) n
A state of complete serenity without impairment of mental or physical functions
Here’s my take, sort of unique you can call it. It’s about a crush a man has on one of his co-workers. They work at a cosmetics plant in the mechanical assembly area as replenishers. She’s one of the few girls who catches his eye and he’s dying to impress her. It’s been awhile since he’s had a crush on any female, especially from previous jobs. “She’s the one”. Unfortunately their encounter is short-lived as after a week he’s laid off from his temporary position. Will the two ever cross paths again?
