The Drugs Lyrics
I was born again in a foreign place with my pupils wide and my friends on stage
It was a warmth I had not had the pleasure to face
And when the music fades the kids could care less
It's a mockery of the time we spent
So I crept into a hole where I could rest
You can paint me a junkie, it's quite alright
I've got all the drugs in the world
I've got all the drugs in the world
I was bound and gagged and held to the flames
And you expect me to try to entertain this curtain of humans who always knew my name
So I wrote new songs and we danced for nights
And we smoked it all 'til the bag was dry
I part the doors and creep back into the light
You can paint me a junkie, it's quite alright
I've got all the drugs in the world
I've got all the drugs in the world
You can have me anyway you want me, my body is yours
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world
It was a warmth I had not had the pleasure to face
And when the music fades the kids could care less
It's a mockery of the time we spent
So I crept into a hole where I could rest
I've got all the drugs in the world
I've got all the drugs in the world
And you expect me to try to entertain this curtain of humans who always knew my name
So I wrote new songs and we danced for nights
And we smoked it all 'til the bag was dry
I part the doors and creep back into the light
I've got all the drugs in the world
I've got all the drugs in the world
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world
I've got all the love in the world

uhhh it's actually about brian joining my american heart and it not being so great and him being accused of being a junkie by one of the members of mah and how mah was jsut not for him and him trying out for his favorite band, say anything, but screwing up. all of these events eventually lead to weatherbox which was the best thing that could happen to him. the whole i've got all the drugs in the world is making fun of the people who called him a junkie. dannnnnnnnnk
Great song. Not really about drugs, but about how music is like a drug. He addicted to music and feeling it gives him to write it, play it and enjoy it. you can paint me a junkie...
touche... I'm on the east coast and therefore know none of this stuff. Thanks for the info.
this song is absolutely incredible. i reminds me so much of bright eyes, and at the same time, it's so its own. beautiful.
I think in the first verse he is talking about being reborn at the first show his friends gave, and how it was so breathtaking and magical, especially under the influence of the drugs. But unlike him there were other kids there who only cared about getting high and not the music, so they barely noticed when the concert was over, and he wants to draw a line between them and him, despite admitting in the chorus that he is a junkie.
In the second verse he describes the difficulties of actually becoming the performer, how there is so much pressure and so many expectations, especially when playing for your friends like that, because they knew you before you were a big name and they don't care that you are supposedly talented, they will judge you like the kid they knew you as. So he describes the process of creating the album to try to impress everyone, and how he once again supported the music with a liberal dose of drugs.
Then the chorus changes to being a junkie for love, not drugs, perhaps when he gets some groupies for his new, successful band.
