IMO it reflects the time while Year of The Spider was out. It wasnt a very good time seeing his Sis and Gf had cancer and he turned to the bottle.

This is such a beautiful song. Scooter can definitely write what he feels in his heart. To me, this song is about how the singer is feeling pain. Not just any pain, a different kind of pain, something that he feels is different than what anybody else has ever felt. So touching and so sad...

Lyrics are correct, its a rhetorical question being asked.

Song meaning is simple. It's about giving someone up, and realising what you have lost. and the "Different Kind of Pain" that hurts you inside from the situation.

I haft 2 agree with everybody...I was searching for Cold's stupid girl...and went 2 there site and A Diffrent Kind of Pain started playing...this song means alot 2 me because me and my mom went through some shit and i was forced 2 not see her...she doesnt do drugs or any of that kind of shit it was just something that happend in the wrong place at the wrong time...one more thing...Fuck the System...

This song is so powerful for me. The first time I heard it was after a dance I had gone to. About a year before the dance I had broken up with my girlfriend, and I realized I had made a mistake shortly after. For a year, I was miserable. I had never told her I still had feelings for her, because, a week later she got a new boyfriend. He was from out of town. When we were at the dance, we danced the last song together. I knew she still had feelings for me, but, she had a boyfriend, and there was nothing I could do. I knew that if I told her I still loved her, it would just confuse her completely. Especially because it had been close to a year that she was dating this guy. Went home and bothered not with taking my clothes off. Slumped onto my bed, turned on the CD player. My brother had been using it earlier, and Cold was still in. It kicked on and went to "A Different Kind of Pain". I knew what I had to do, and, the next day me and her talked through it. This week I am asking her father if we have his approval to start our relationship again. I give credit to Cold, and, "A Different Kind of Pain". Thank you a million times over.

this song brings tears to my eyes, it perfectly describes the situation im in, its not so much the pain of losing someone, but the pain of not being able to be with them, it truly is a different kind of pain, i currently have a very strong infatuation with this female, the lyrics " Before i let you go, Give me just one more night, To show you just how i feel " to me it feels as though every night i talk to her i havent said enough to express how i feel, also "A different kind of pain Is someone there to hold you? Is someone there to take you away from me?" it is a different kind of pain, if i could ask the girl the question, is there someone there to hold you?, i would love to answer that question with "me", and the last part "Is someone there to take you away from me?" i dont want to see her with anyone else, i want her to be with me, i want to hold and kiss her, tell her how much she means to me, i know ill say it soon enough, i just wish it would be easier when she's not like other girls... in any case, this song has made me realize my true feelings for her and i need to let her know, otherwise ill be spending the rest of my life wondering what couldve been

i stopped listening to cold over the years.. same with the band staind, but when this cd had rereleased.. i was clueless it was even out.. so i got it from a friend.. and this song was the first to stick out. lasted did some research and watched the video.. this song is amazing, im sure its touched everyone slife just as muc as mine.. i then got the staind spider tattooed on my chest, and now i listen toi the, almost everyday.. to all those who have lost some one.. just like me.. im glad we have all found something to hold us here.

This song is one of the best. I agree with JR11 it's about feeling a different kind of pain that people can't understand when you lose someone in a relationship and can't imagine them being held by anyone else but you :(
