i think everyone can relate to it somehow, liking someone and trying to get them to have feelings as strong as yours

Hey Larah, I wanted to give you my intepretation of the section on tornadoes: I think Lee is saying here that he used to be a "breathing tornado," which represents someone responsible for breaking hearts (or in the very least sopmeone being in control in relationships). Now, he "lives at the eye of the storm," which means his position has been inverted. He is the vulnerable person in a "turbulent" state because of this new love interest. He even remarks that "the sense of separation" (or loneliness) from his last girlfriend has faded because he is enjoying the fruits of these new blossoming feelings (hence he is warmed by this new love). Make sense?
i thought the tornadoes verse meant that his life was all crazy and messed up. But when he met her everything fell into place, she's this constant in his life that allows him to figure out everything else as well... Amazing song.
Absolutely beautiful song - veru very cute!! I think the whole song is just him expressing his love to someone who may or may not feel the same way - he doesn't know. 'The dark' I think symbolises the subtleness of how he is expressing his love or what have you. He needs to blatantly say he loves her but is finding out ways to that and meanwhile he's just going to let on in a subtle way what she means to him.
people are so used to outright cynicism in music that perhaps Ben Lee is too "positive" for their taste

I love this song, I think it is brilliant, I am in this situation at present, and when I am around her I am a different person, I am so happy! I have all these feelings...
I think breathing tornados simply refers to his transition as a person from the time of the release of the record titled, 'Breathing Tornados' where he was quite pessimistic and as Bernard Fanning from Powderfinger around the time infamously labelled him, 'a precocious little cunt', to now where his lyrics are filled with love and happiness which has allowed him to see and enter 'the eye of the storm'; the important parts of life which he couldn't when he previously had this problematic outlook and an arrogant demenour.
In fact, i think that that's the theme of the whole album, 'Awake is the New Sleep'... It's all said in the title

To me this song is like an optimistic view on when you love someone and need to tell them but need to get them to love you or you need to get to know them. It's so cute and happy. It's about a happy feeling that you get just from being with a person.
