Trouble With Dreams Lyrics

There's nothing that I wanna do
More than get along and be with you
Trouble with dreams is they don't come true
And when they do they can catch up to you

You don't need a thing from me but I
I need something big from you
Cos you know I've got an awful lot of big dreams

I'm walking down a lonely road
Clear to me now but I was never told
Trouble with dreams is you never know
When to hold on and when to let go

If you let me down it's alright
At least there'll be something for me
Cos you know I got an awful lot of big dreams

This is the life that I must lead now
Crossing fingers and wiping brows
Trouble with dreams is you can't pretend
Something with no beginning has an end

You don't need a thing from me but I
I need something big from you
Cos you know I've got an awful lot of big dreams

"Trouble with dreams is they don't come true" how true that is

@scottecooper Wow, 2005, this was THAT long ago lol…I heard this on WXPN, I remember it being contemporaneous with Portikns For Foxes, both of which I really Liked at the time…

Listening to Trouble With dreams now - Yeah, GREAT song, man…and I’m not necessarily an “eels fan”, but what a song!!

The glockenspiel is a vastly underused instrument these days.

I see it a little differently. I see it as a reminder the things we perceive (pretend) as being perfect that really aren't. Disillusionment.

Being in a relationship that you feel/believe/act as if it is everything you want and need, but acknowledging nothing is really perfect.

It's not so much, IMO, about want something you dream about but can't have- rather getting what you dreamed of and realising it isn't what you expected.

@rainbowtvp Afa the Glockenspiel in pop Music:

Bruce Springsteen says, “you’re welcome”…

This song is about how things in dreams don't always come true, no matter how much you want them to. Specifically, it uses the example of a guy wanting a girl, and he doesn't feel the feelings are mutual, so he keeps their relationship in his dreams.

i think he's saying not to get a head of yourself. or shoot to high. because the higher you shoot its just that much farther to the ground.

Who hasn't felt this way... wanting something and even though it's a wonderful dream you don't know whether you should pursue it because it might end up leading to huge disappointment.
